Default In the market for a camera

So tax returns are back and I'm now in the market for a DSLR camera. I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations.

I would like to stay under $650 (maybe 700), which includes a starter lens - something like 18-55mm.

    Cameras I was looking at:

    Cannon Rebel XS (550)
    Cannon Rebel T3 (600)
    Nikon D3000 (500)
    Nikon D5000 (600)

Does anyone recommend any of these in particular? If so, why? I'm open to suggestions if you have any! Unfortunately cameras like the Rebel T2i are just out of my price range, so keep that in mind.

    Much obliged

My daughter saved up some money for a DSLR and we ended up getting the Cannon Rebel XS. I originally bought a Rebel XT from KEH.com with a 18-55mm zoom on it. It came out to $400 delivered. Unfortunately we misread the description and it did not come with a storage card. CF in this case. While looking to get one I stumbled upon a complete kit from of all places Wal-Mart online. $499

Its the XS which was the replacement for the XT. Has the EFS 18-55mm lens with IS, 2 GB SD (which is nice because CF is getting harder to find in stores if you need one in a hurry, and less expensive), and a camera bag to boot.

I sent the camera back to KEH and we should get the XS today or tomorrow I will let you know how it works out.

My Sony A330 is awesome. No complaints at all.

After much research and deliberation, I ended up going with the Nikon D3100. Thanks everyone for your suggestions!
