Gigabyte, known widely for their high-end motherboards and graphics cards, have just released the world's first Z68-based motherboards with onboard mSATA for intelR SLC SSDs and Smart Response Technology. What exactly does this all mean to you? Well read on to find out....

I'd never heard of mSATA before, but I was able to guess what it was. Apparently it is half the size and half the speed of SATA...so why would anyone plug a high speed/priced SSD into one? Also, is it not inconvenient to open the side of the case to plug in a portable drive into the mobo? Can we run an extension to a front panel like USB? Give us more PCIx slots that don't reduce GPU slot performance for PCIx SSDs. We want throughput from ever direction! Let's make some wicked boards that people get jealous over! (Let's also limit the use of pastel and neon colors before it starts looking like an asrock or dfi board...I don't want a clown colored mobo)

The EFI is definitely a step in the right direction.
    I'll procrastinate tomorrow.

mDust, I think I know how mSata would work.
Sata has 4 data lanes: 2 in, 2 out, mSata takes out one of each, similar to USB.

I suppose you also mean PCIe?

Is it just me, or does mSATA look a lot like mPCIe?
Two years. They were great. Let's make the next ones even better!
