Hey everyone,
I finally managed to find a great deal on a new mobo/cpu combo ($140 CAD) for an AMD 955 x4 and an MSI 870-G45!
So that's the good news...
After assembling the system, I get an error about low cmos battery voltage, so I replaced it. Error persists.. I *might* have found a solution on the MSI forums just now, so i'll test when I get home..
The rest of the system is as follows:
2x2gb Samsung PC3-8500E ram
WD Raptor 160gb
EVGA 8800GTS 320mb
Corsair 500w modular psu
Here's the issue:
First boot, after the cmos error is ignored, system will boot to whatever media is attached (usb key, cd/dvd, etc). As soon as you reboot, blank screen, no post beep, nothing. Fans and LED's are working, but nothing beyond that.
Power down, reseat components, power up, proceed as normal.. until reboot, then the process repeats.
SO.. no onboard graphics, so I'm going to borrow a gpu from work to test.
I'm also going to test diff ram.
I'm swapping out PSU tonight also.
I find it odd that reseating stuff will let it work, but as soon as it reboots, it's gone.
I ran a PC Check on it to test all the hardware, and everything passes the testing, and as long as I dont reboot it, it seems to work fine. XP Live disc boots up and works normally, the 8800gts is causing me some grief with my ubuntu live discs, so I havent gotten that going yet.
Any other thoughts?
