Default Global Rainbow at St. Mary's Lighthouse, Whitley Bay, UK

This, apparently, is something to do with the forthcoming olympic games in London but I just thought it was pretty cool. This was only a couple dozen miles from where I live so I figured, what the hell, and jumped in the car with my camera and tripod....

That's amazing! I wonder how far they go? Are they just super bright lights or are they classified as lasers at this point?

The heat those things must put off...

I bet they attract insects from miles and miles around too. And they probably all fly directly into the light... THE ULTIMATE BUG ZAPPER! :o

They're definitely lasers - a closer look (or a better camera) would show little cheats off - like there's no way to make a truly orange laser (I think) so the orange second beam is actually two red and two yellow all tightly arranged so it looks orange....

Actually in the second pic you can kinda make out the two colours - the beam is definitely redder on one side and yellower on the other.... I think there's as many as 4 seperate beams in each colour
