Here is what I've done so far. I know this will seem ridiculous, but I am going to draw all the parts and then put the whole thing together.

Here is the radiator. I want to have three.

And the pic of the real thing. ThermoChill HE120.3

That is going to be one wicked mod, but you know that already. And don't forget to add a nice 2001/2010 sound scheme to it, it's gotta have those.

I'm definately going to have HAL say, "Good evening Dave. everything is running smoothly, and you?" instead of the windows startup sounds. I'm not on other stuff, so I am way open to suggestions.

Well... I'm not finished yet but I've been working on a HAL mod myself...

    https://home.comcast.net/~gulp35/computer/hal9000.htm

I decided to go with a Rackmount case myself... more monolith like... and I was planning on making my own set of memory modules to go along with it as a wall hanging, at first... then my wallet slapped me...

good luck on your project (i love the idea of adding scenes of the movie to it)

Can you elaborate more on your use of the Ipod as the monolith?

wow, 3 ThermoChill HE120.3 units AND peltiers? i cant wait to see that setup. i also cant wait to see hwo this turns out. thought i mgiht as well throw in my 2 cents and suggest using the quote "I'm sorry Dave, I'm afraid I can't do that." for error messages.

EDIT: BTW, is it just me, or does HAL sound a bit like Gene Wilder on Valium?

MY biggest problem is that I don't have money. Does anyone know how to get sponsors?

I'm not completely sure how I would do the iPod yet. I know that an iPod and the monolith are roughly the same shape. I would probably mod the iPod to look more like the monolith and then mod a mounting dock into the bottom of the case where I would do a moonscape diorama type thing (like in the movie where they find it on the moon's surface.)
