    Default Fallout 2.1

With Fallout 3 Just around the corner I thought that it became time for an upgrade for my Fallout 2.0. Fallout 2.0 could run the first 2 Fallout RPG's with out problems. but since Fallout 3 is just a bit harder to process its upgrade time.

Lets make Fallout 2.0 into 2.1

this is how we remember this great(a least for me) Mod.

    Currently its a:
    • [CPU] 4000+ AMD Athlon.
    • [RAM] 2 Gb DDR2 Kingston.
    • [GFX] NV 7600 GT.
    • [HD] Maxtor 320 Gb S-ATA 7200rpm.
    • [MB] MSI K8n Neo2 platinum.

But that is all to change in the coming month.

Lets take a quick overview of what I am planning.
*first the the 120 mm Rad is a goner.( it was/is positioned behind the bottom center front) it will be replaced by a 240gtx stealth radiator. not in the same location but over the bottom of the case. more info on this in future updates.
*some new hardware. ill let the pics do the talking.

This GPU will stay stock. (meaning it will not be water cooled)

For those not Familiar with this MB. its mATX. why.... to make room for the radiator and his fans. on the bottom of the case.

*also ill be adding extra fans front and back. on the front will be some room now since the single 120 mm rad is gone. and on the back ill be cutting a hole special made for a 120mm fan.(coming from Vault-tec)

I hope i got you on this small project. so stay close and be amazed.

    Yours Cheron.

    An Update.

I have thorn down the 'Old' Fallout 2.0. and started on some design features.

But first some history on Fallout. or the Aopen case it once was. I guess they don't make em anymore but its old fashion Steel (damn heavy those side panels).

It housed my first Own PC (I didn't have to share it with any one) back then it was on of the first Pentium III's. If i remember it correct clocked at a staggering speed of 800 MHz. can remember the grafix but they weren't that important back then. till that day I upgraded to an AMD processor It was an 1800+ I remember it like yesterday. I Upgraded together with an friend and his Proc. was the last one and i had to wait till the following day..... but time passes and you find out its was already time to upgrade I upgraded to an 2200+ I maxed out on the MB. Ram had grown to 1Gig and what did I know....

My rig needed an Upgrade.... Water cooling took foot.... and so i did.... in one terrible way... it looked like an mess but worked great i overclocked and I even bought an GF4600ti and water cooled it. times where great we went to LAN party's and even won somethings. people looked at my rig.... and where amazed with it. I found my place among them I am a Casemodder.

the last part started. I wanted to make something great. and so Fallout 2.0 was born. It was an upgrade have loved until now (actually I love it still).

But as I said earlier Time never stops and again its time to Upgrade.....

OK that wasn't meant to happen but if you are still here... Thanks for Reading.

Ill be making Fallout 2.0 into 2.1 as i told you all earlier. that means better.
But to make things better you have to understand them. my dad always told me. So in my turn i decided to tear Fallout 2.0 apart and make my self understand what i build years ago.(and kept running with repairs and replacement parts after that) enjoy the pictures.(sorry the are made with my Phone)

(^)I am going to clean that wire mess...I promise.

And finally my first design change to this case... (just mock up)

I hope you all like what you see...

    Yours Cheron.

Ok this is what i am going to do today..... as you can see I tore it down to the bone..

I am going to clean the glue from the top where the Bottle caps used to be....
So I have room to draw some Air vents....
don't worry ill keep that Bottle cap reference to Fallout in. but more subtle this time.

And Also Ill start cutting the back for the fan is showed earlier.

Ill be back later today to show results. I really want to get this done.

yes I have thought of mounting the Res on top. but since it isn't in the way (and doesn't block airflow being rounded as it is) ill keep it on the back.

For the vents on the top there wont be Fans just openings with some mesh..

Like your Lexa the Air intake will be primary from below trough the Radiator. also there will be air moving in from the front where the old Radiator used to be.

So that brings us to 3X 120 mm intake fans and just 2 (one being the PSU fan) exit fans. with this in mind ill just vent the execs air trough the top.(with out a Fan. hot air will raise any way)

    I have a new picture.

    Ok I have some Pictures.

The vents in the top panel. there will be mesh in those holes.

Two extra holes in the back. both will be covered from within, with some mesh.

I also cut the hole for the 240 radiator. as you can see here, I primed it with the base coat.

here you can see the MB tray all painted satin black.

That is all I can show you today. for now I cant go on have to wait for parts.
But I'll be fabricating some smaller parts in the coming days.

I have been sleeving a lot of cables in the past 2 days, also I have received my package of Watercooling parts(but no pictures of that yet).

I have been painting and Its getting a really old look atm(I will show that also later).

Now somethings I have pictures of. The Top panel.
The 2 vents on the top the rear of the car is the front of the case.

The model car is my version of the in Fallout 2 featured Highwayman. all rusted and its to bad you cant see it in its full glory, I have also made the interior worn(with patched up parts) its really cool.

I have also installed the water block on the MB. here are some pictures.

Did a test fit, the radiator in combination with the pump.

    That's it for now.

    An Other update.

I have started installing all kinds of things only to discover I needed some space in certain parts of the case. so I had to relocate em. but with that done I thought maybe there are more things that do not fit. so started to test fit everything except the front panel(will change that front with certain parts in the coming days). but any hows.... some pictures.

This is also something I have done, cut short all the bolts. So I could use those domed bolts

This is the top vent I have been talking about. The Hard drive will be seen trough this vent. You can also see some scratches I have made on the top of the case(first applied a layer of bondo and scratched that before it hardened). This will help me with the weathering of the case. The last 2 bolts near the back of the case are dummies only there for aesthetic reasons(they wont stay silver colored. but if you like it i might consider leaving em that way.)

And some closing shots for this post.

On that last photo you can see I haven't cleaned the edges of that piece of Acrylic and i wont be doing that, since I am going to whether it. Like I did on the front.(when it was Fallout 2.0)

    That was it for today.

Very small update. This is what I have done this evening. I made some expansion slot covers(or what ever the name) from some mesh. just take a look.

    Yours Cheron.

P.s. It looks like its likely becoming 3.0 instead of 2.1. this thing is getting better than I anticipated.

This really "cool" HD will replace the old 320gb HD seen here. if you look closely you can see it through the (mesh)top vent.

Also I bought 4 GB of Geil Black dragon ram it fits the new theme much better than the "old" blue colored Kingston ram.http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3035/...958f39.jpg?v=0

I hope I updated you with great info. and I really hope you still like it.
    Feedback is much appreciated.

    Yours Cheron.
