Harwell Dekatron designer Dick Barnes another one of those pretty much unknown geniuses, I read it also used GPO type relays which another brilliant visionary Tommy Flowers first used in Colossus, Flowers realized that the British telephone system used thousands of valves and was reliable because the electronics were operated in a stable environment that included having the circuitry on all the time.

The Bletchley Park management were not convinced but they encouraged Flowers to proceed on his own, how typically British .
He did so and payed for much of the equipment himself, what amazes me with these guys is the way they used what was already available like the GPO type relays because in war time they did not have the time to spend years developing new technology.

Why has this spammer ^^^ been allowed to post 40 times, why have they not been banned/removed?

    Thank you mods!

If it's relevant to the discussion, feel free to post it. Unfortunately, a lot of spammers copy/paste random articles from the internet in order to fool spam filters. If you're going to copy/paste content, you might want to attribute it so it doesn't sound like spam.

    Example:

I thought this would be relevant and interesting:
    (Copy/pasted from www.somewebsite.com)

    Big block of random text.

    Enjoy.

I still don't get it. do you mean this that I posted? Actually most of it was compiled by me as Bletchley Park and the people that worked there are an interest of mine and I have watched a few documentaries and read a book about them, I have never heard any one here say that when you add some info to a post you should make it clear it's not spam

I have over 200 posts how would that be a spammer

My post that has had a line put through it was pointing to the above spammer (now removed) that had spammed every new post I viewed, why was a line put through it?

The reason you almost got the ban-hammer is because of how we report spam here. If you catch a spammer, you need to post a link to their profile in this thread. Often a spammer will come in and start going crazy all over the boards in a very short amount of time because it is all automated, so it would be reasonable that they might post a lot before someone can get rid of it all.

Also, some spam bots are pretty sophisticated and will lay low and make posts without links or posts that may even contribute or help (which I guess would no longer be spam but an automated internet help system (awesome!)), but then later edit all their posts at once or change their signature to porn links or whatever.

The other reason you almost got in trouble is because your post (quoted below) sounded pretty rude, like the staff of the site has been lazy in their duties, which they very much are not. The staff here gets most spam before anyone sees it, and they do everything they do here for no pay. That makes them pretty awesome.

So, yeah, that's all. No need to dwell on it or worry. You are welcome here and we're happy to have you. Keep posting and having fun, just make sure you post by the "golden rule" and you won't ever have an issue.

Don't get frustrated by the spammers. They are low-life bottom feeders and are dealt with harshly when discovered. I'm on here several times a day and will even ban the ones who are just signing up whenever possible.

Only issue with your post is that it just seemed to be like spambots do... copy in a mess of text. I can easily see you've earned a decent reputation here, and even an award, so you're safe from getting hammered.

Apologies, I didn't mean it to come across like that but I can see that now, I'll leave the spammers to others in future

Mmm, My ramble about Bletchely Park resembles a spambot
