For this project I will be rebuilding/resurrecting one of my older builds, Odin. After I built Odin I moved around a lot with school and never really got a chance to get the OS setup and I had performance issues with the hardware. For a while I used a Dell PowerEdge 1950 instead, with an external 5-bay SATA enclosure but the noise was overwhelming in the townhouse I was in at the time and when I moved into a new apartment, it became unbearable. So I tried to put the old system back into use but ran into a few problems. Turns out most of the performance issues were hardware related so I RMA'ed the motherboard and CPU, and replaced the old 60GB Vertex OS drive and put a new case on my birthday list.
While the case has been sitting around for over a month teasing me, September was just to busy to get to this project. I've now got some time in the evenings to work on it so I'm starting a log to keep me motivated and force me to actually post as I go instead of my usual when everything is done.
This machine will be my WHS 2011 home server and as my network naming convention has changed from Norse mythology (which I have only a rudimentary knowledge of) to Star Wars (which I know quite well ) I've decided to call this build the Maw. For those who don't know, the Maw is the area of space in which the Kessel Run passes around, where Han Solo made his record setting run in less than 12 parsecs (leading to one of the most controversial quotes in Star Wars lore). He was able to shorten the distance of the run by flying close to the cluster of black holes that comprise the Maw.
(phew!) That was a long explanation to justify the name because the colour theme for this case is Black. With dark black accents. And midnight black trim. And for a splash of colour I'll throw in some blue (only because I don't have a way to make it black).
I apologize for the long intro without pictures because I understand
I promise there will be pictures to come soon.
