    Default molex wiring

    hey guys, i had to take off my molex connector off my pump, which is running on 12v....but i cant remeber the position it was in before...the wiring is weird and i dunn want to burn anything

    theres only 2 wires
    1. a black one with a thin red stripe
    2. a red one

    from how i understand, black is pretty universal as a ground, so would the red one connect to the yellow on the other end??

    thanks

    On the molex connector, red and yellow are positive and the blacks are negative. It doesnt really matter which wires you connect to but just to be safe, I'd connect red to red and black to black.

    Black = ground
    Red = 5v
    yellow = 12v

    woah, do NOT just connect wires to whatever colors match. and yes red and yellow carry voltage, but by no means are they the same. like airbozo said, red is 5v and yellow is 12v. in this case, i doubt your pump is 5v, but it may be. you should check what it says on the pump, if its a 12v pump, which im willing to venture a guess and say it is, its like most pumps that use a molex connector. in which case the red would not go to red, it would go to yellow.

    This is the correct mojo!

    Just to check I ripped open my system and checked some of the fans and lighting wiring. One of my lights was wired with red and black wire, but the red wire is actually connected to the yellow 12v wire on the connector coming from the power supply.

    When in doubt use a meter to check it.
