    Default Powersupply cable question.

I just recently finished sleaving most of the cables on my power supply.
When i did this i was extremely careful to make sure that all of the wires made it back in to their original position. (and subsequently was extremely delighted in the fact that my power supply still functions)

My question is though, When reconnecting the grounds Does it matter which goes in which socket?

    For instance.
On my molex connectors each little slot was numbered. If i remember correctly it was like this.
    1. - yellow
    2. - black (ground)
    3. - black (ground)
    4. - red

Does it matter if i switch #2 and #3 ? Is each ground specific to either voltage?

Im assuming they have to be exact, which is how i did it.

Sorry for the stupid question, I think i already know the answer as i stated above, i just thought i would ask anyway.

well its not a stupid question, is very good question
but i dont know what to tell you

the last PSU i went trough had al the molex ground wires, soldered all in one spot

but just to be on the safe side, do what you just did anyway, (if you ever decide to do it again)

Well, it used to be that ALL of the ground wires were soldered/connected to the same ground rail. I am 99% positive it is still this way even in the newer generation of power supplies (the ones with multiple 12 and 5 volt rails).

Short answer: It's best to put the wires back where they were, although a ground is a ground is a ground....

All right guys, thanks for the replies. I probably wouldn't try to mix them anyway, but it will help me be less nervous about the possibility of mixing them up on accident.

For those who remember those days: When we wanted to build a fan switch that goes 12V and 7V, we put the 12V wire and HIS ground to run the fan at 12V and use the other ground to get 7V Fan. In fact it's 12V, -12V,-5V and 5V

    Cheers
