Ok, the not so easy way to tell is to count the pins. Floppy cables have 36, IDE cables have 40.
The same thing applies for their hookups.
Another way to find out on the motherboard is to look up the basic diagram in the manual. It will tell you what things are and where they are.

Is that list of items your pc?

They look identical. The way to tell the difference is the number of holes on the ends.

The floppy IDE cable is slightley smaller then the Optical drive.

A Hardrive and Opticle drive use the same. Floppy is differnt. And now adays, Sorry no offence, but why would you use a floppy? I mean I understand you can transport data...but 1 megabyte? Come on! Try finding a media card reader. Possible one with USB ports, SD slots and so.

There's also a twist in the floppy IDE cable.

I won't give you bad Rep. but let me explain myself:

*Firstly, I bought most of my components OEM as to save money; that means I don't have manuals.

*I was just messing around in that topic. Are people on this forum kind of sensitive?

    *Thanks for the info.

    EDIT:

    1) I just appologized to him.
    2) Regarding the last clause in your post, I just thought you should no that I saved up for about seven years to get this rig. And thats including holiday money, so don't just think i'm some spoiled kid. I worked my ass off for the rig and excuse me if I want to make sure I don't screw up.

I just checked out my motherboard manual. Interesting problem: The little "Map/diagram" of the board has a slot labbled FDD and Floppy Drive Connector; Which should I use? Contrarily; nothing is labled IDE.
