My Intel vs. His AMD

Just out of curiosity and my lack of amd knowledge. Which CPU out performs the other? My Intel 2.8Ghz P4 or my younger brothers AMD Athlon 64 3800+? I was thinking that they are each others equal because our computers cost the same, but I never really looked into it.

While I'm here, can you overclock HP computers or are they like Dell in that they are non-overclockable?

And no, I don't think you can OC an HP, unless you go with a OC'ing utility, but what's the fun in that?

Use 3dMark06 and bench test them both. The higher the number, the better.

Anyways, use this chart. Pick the 2 processors you want to compare and look how they stack up in the list of benchmarks. It will give you a good idea on processors alone. So other factors like GPU or overclocking for example won't affect it.

Well, just a real quick comparrison....

AMD's naming scheme (although they don't admit this completely) was to show how their chips compare to Intel chips. They were clocked slower, but did more per cycle then their Intel counterparts. They started using the "naming scheme" to win back some of the number chasers.

2.0Ghz Intel? Or 1.4Ghz AMD?
vs.
2.0Ghz Intel? Or 2000+ AMD?

See how the "naming" scheme works?

In that regard, you've got a 2.8Ghz Intel vs. a 3800+ AMD. This should lead you to believe that the AMD is faster. Again, rough comparrison, and not really all that fair since AMD just arbitrarilly picks a number these days. But, that's the idea.
