Thread: PSU - I've gone round and round....

  1. #1

Default PSU - I've gone round and round....

I think I've settled on the Thermaltake Toughpower 650W Modular.

But then I read reviews praising the OCZ EvoStream 720W.

And all along we've all known that SeaSonic are rock solid. No way I can justify the over $200 price tag for the modular version, but the 650W non-modular is right in the mix.

And with companies Hiper moving their well-known PSU's into the US market.... and Antec getting hosed in the public eye as of late.

    I'm so dern confused.

Is there anywhere that compares all of the top PSU's? And is the modular version worth it?

I may not be able to help you out with a site that compares all the PSUs in one big roundup.
But... it seems you like the modular Seasonics but don't like the price. Well I might have a solution to that. Corsair 620HX. They basically took the new Seasonics and rebranded it.

Here's a review which mentions that fact.

Wow. If that's the case, then that will become my new PowerSupply.

    That's awesome.

If you are looking to get a nice high end psu that comes HIGHLY rated, and modular, around the 620 watt range, def go with the enermax liberty 620. its an awesome psu.

    and its NVIDIA® SLI™-Ready Certified

i havent heard a whole lot of good about the ocz psu's. I think they should jsut stick to making ram. but.. thats imo. if you want a good psu, go with a seasonic. a 6 week stress test on tomshardware, and it came out as their top pick.

what kind of system are you building? do you NEED 800 watts or did someone who doesnt know what they are talkin about tell you that?

that is def a rock solid psu. Its damn near power my neighbourhood. It gets great reviews, great efficiency, 5 12 volt rails, and endless quality features. but.. its got a steep price too. and honestly, you should look at what you actually need. most people wayy overkill on psu. ive got a 620, and im overkill.

but.. its totally up to you.. if you want to fail safe any future upgrades, this would be the way to go IMO.

well i will eventually have 2 8800gtx's, either 4 or 6 120 fans cooling 2 or 3 240mm black ice rads, 2 pumps, overclocked ram, cpu. 2 hdds. 2 sata dvd drives. and a case fan or 2. once i turn 21, i just turned 20 on march 5th, i will have $8500 given to me from inheritance. so by then i am planing on having 1 8800gtx and at least the cpu water cooled. also will this psu fit in a thermaltake amour?
