    Default Making a glass mousepad

so I have some extra glass sheets, and dont feel like spending $30 on a glass mousepad. what would be wrong about taking a sheet of glass, putting something under it to give texture for the mouse laser, and using that? of course doing something for the edges for safety, but my main concern is my laser.
btw, I have a Logitech G7, which had a lot of problems with an Icemat.

    Try it out first!
Put the glass on your desktop with something under it and see how it goes before you put any effort into it.

And then after that, perhaps a metal bottom would work. Kind of like a CD.

yea, I'm in school right now, and the glass is back home, so I'm just thinking up things to do when I get back, thus why I asked before I tried.

Maybe even a brushed metal would look good on it. I like the look of glass and steel together.

I just tried using one of the frosted pieces of acrylic I have from my subwoofer I'm making. It works mostly, but not too well. I don't use a mousepad with my mouse by the way.

try it with something dark. I am not sure on the specifics of LASER mousies, but the old OPTICAL variety I noticed has a really really hard time on light colors, the lighter it is the worse the optics.

My dad uses a glass & steel desk. The glass is frosted on the bottom so it works with his mouse but his hand tends to "stick" to the glass if it's sweaty (such as in gaming). He uses a mousepad though so it's not a problem.

Could you perhaps etch something into the bottom of the glass where say it would lay against the metal base? That would be a nice mod if you could do something like that.
