Well, there isn't such a thing. You'd have to write your own.

Most of us will just hit Ctrl+Alt+Del.

You can pretty much close everything you don't need that way. You can even close explorer and start your game with the run command, if RAM is a major premium for you.

%30 RAM sounds pretty normal to be honest. Apparently XP seeks to use a certain % or RAM at all times, and will actually fill your RAM with crap regardless of how much you have.

Speaking of which, you know how the processes have BS names that make no sense? How can I tell what to stop and what to run? I have so much crap I don't need in the background and know not what to get rid of, although, I prolly should do a clean install of XP, but may as well wait 'til I upgrade to Vista to do that...

Just a tought but the Explorer shell that Windows uses is very wasteful in resources. An alternant shell that uses less resources is an option. I use litestep, I was trying to make a skin for it that resembled the interface of my favorite game. Plus you can add in monitors for CPU usage, ect. Can easily customize using notepad and some basic programming skills.

I think the best way is to get windows defender.. it allows youto stop mal and spyware on your computer and looks at all the processes. it is standard in vista now..

but anyway there is a tab on windows defender what gives a discription of the processes running and what they are for. i would say that is your best bet. but incase something happends you can all ways google the names of processes and find out the hard way

or the old fasioned way is to just kill the task if your computer goes upside down then dont touch it.. if it seems oki then it wasent important.. of course it wouldnt be recommended because killing some tasks will make the computer restart or hang. with that you open gaps for cruption and loss

Some tasks will try to shutdown your comp in 60 secs. If that happens, quickly fire up the console and hit:

    shutdown -a
    And it avoids catastrophe.
