    Default Cyclops Mouse Mod

Now that Project: Elcucu is finished i thought i would take a crack at a mouse mod. Nothing new and inspiring, just another mouse mod. I had this 5 button optical mouse just lying around collecting dust so why not give it a shot.

    Polystyrene strips, fan, and mouse

    Mouse stripped

    stuff in the way

    that's better

prepped, sanded, and ready for teeth

    teeth

    jaw

    workin the skull

    damn side buttons, oh well

and what i'm left with for now

Still needs plenty of shaping and gonna start the bondo work soon. The fan was to big to clear so i'm gonna have to pick up something a bit smaller. I was gonna make it a normal skull but then it would have this line going down it's face for the buttons and scroll so i thought a cyclops would be more appropriate. I've never used polystyrene before and i'm ammazed at how eazy it is to flex and shape. Well that's it for now... i'll get to work on it tomorrow... maybe:p.

btw: thanx crazybillybob for the info on led's. that helps tons.

Here an update... well the pics say enough.

what im working with... (except the mesh is finished already)

My bondo aplicator 5000 (melted and flattened Qtip:p)

It's comming alive with flesh... ruuuuuun (good ol bondo)

A few pics of shaping it up

damn i forgot to take pics of the 'after sanding' it, oh well here it is primered for now. I might still work on shaping it and cleaning it up so this probably won't be the first time it is primered. (sorry if it's blurry)

Still got quite a bit to do but i'm just taking my sweet ass time on it. I also still have that fan problem i mentioned earlier so i have to figure that out as well.

    Thanx for dropping by.

Thanx a bunch for the help dave. I guess my post should be called "cyclops mouse mod and do it yourself led lights". I have 2 sets of red led lights that i would like to use either one.

    5000mcd rated 2.4v 20mA (x2)
    800mcd rated 1.7v 20mA (x2)

I wouldn't mind using either ones although i preffer the 2.4v. I believe the usb to the mouse is a 5v but i'm not quite sure. I really need to get me a multimeter. Oh yeah and don't forget the fan if you can implement that in there as well. It says it runs at 12v but i clocked it to run at 5v as well when i tried it on another mouse (one where the usb chords are where they say they are). Anywho thanx again for your help and everyone elses.

It's official... "I'M SUCH AN IDIOT, GAWD!!!" ...napoleon dynamite
All this time i've been working on 2 different mice and the port one i've been looking at is a usb but the cyclops one is a regular mouse port. Son of a...
well this is what i have to work with... V G D C

Allrighty then. Well If it's a standard PS/2 Port then your pins look like:

    Pin: SIGNAL NAME:
    1 Data
    2 Reserved
    3 Ground
    4 + 5 Volts
    5 Clock
    6 Reserved
    (Thanks to ctips.com)

So either way, you're working with a 5 volts. It's pin 4 on a PS/2 and it's Pin 1 on a USB. I'm guessing that's the red cable in the picture there, and the ground is the white G wire. D is probably data and C is probably clock.

Right, this diagram isn't the best, but it should get the job done.

The LED's should be soldered with the long leg first, that is the long leg should be connected to the 5 volts and the short leg should be connected to the GND.

If you want to look up more on how this works, look up Serial and Parralell in an electric circuit. This shouldn't drop the current to the point where anything stops working, but if that does happen, post back and we can actually re-configure this so that there is more current to different parts. I hope this helps.

Oh, and i can't say for 100% my calculations are correct. I'm thinking they are, so good luck. This is for the 2.4 lights, if you change to the 1.7 lights then just plug 1.7 into the equation instead of the 2.4 and the answer is your new resistance. And if you can't find a 130ohm resistor, then (i think it's 133 or 144 that's the most common) a close resistor is fine. It's not exactly processor technology, so don't worry about cowboying it just a little.

Alright here's a small update... kinda. I started painting the mouse today. I'm no artist so i understand if people will rag on me about my painting. Give me a break. This is the first time i've ever painted this way let alone mod a mouse.

    Painted it black

What i'm working with... (just acrylic paints)

    First coat of acrylic painting...

And a bunch of angles of it pretty much done. (until i put in the little details)

Tomorrow i will continue with the innards of it all.

"sigh" ... time for a beer.
