Problems with computer freezing.

Went to go on my pc this morning and it was asleep.

Moved the mouse... hit space... wouldn't wake up! it went into a coma! NOOO

...anyways.

I shut down manually and I got that screen that everyone loves.

Restart in safe mode?
Restart with command prompt?

Restart in the last known working configurations?

Restart normally




Nothing worked and I had to reformat... any idea what happened?

Bad OC? Huge virus? From your description, anything could have happened. What were you doing before you went to bed? Did you OC? We need specifics.

Probably a corrupt file. happened to me once. Took four hours of dos to fix it. Eh

I don't know how to OC so I've never attempted.

It was running fine last night?

When it tried booting in safe mode or normal, it ran down a list of files, flashed to a blue screen, started to boot, then went back to that option screen.

came home today and my computer was in a coma again... it restarted fine but it's starting to piss me off. theres no reason for it.

the orange light comes on, on the monitor and the computer as if hibernating... but it never comes back.

I was supposed to be ordering for my custom this weekend but my grandma didn't come through. oh well, I'm not gunna bitch cuz she definitely doesn't need to do this for me.

sounds like the harddrive is borked. could be a bad read arm bearing or bad sectors.

Get a new Hard Drive.

Or you could get a copy of the manufactures diagnostic tool and make sure its a bad drive before you spend money on a new one which might not be the problem at all.

Do you have S.M.A.R.T. enabled on your drive(s)?


It might be a bad RAID controler if its a SATA drive?

If its not SATA, try switching it to your other IDE channel and use another molex connector.

You might have had a power surge in the middle of the night. Do you have a surge protector connected?

Could have been a brown out also--that's where your power slumps.

Likely? Probably not, but one never knows...

Did any other electronics in your house get 'borked', as Crimson put it?

I've never heard of S.M.A.R.T? I checked the properties of my C and D and didn't see anything like that?

I checked my power option props and hibernation was enabled but my options were all set to "never" including "system hibernate."

I have IDE. It's an old HP 563w.
