ipconfig
read my ip, subnet and default....
ipconfig /release
"the operation failed as no adapter is in the state permissible for this operation"
ok, so the connection is not set. Can I ask you how you installed the drivers?

Downloaded them with the laptop, burned them on a cd, then ran them on the desktop.
I suspect a driver issue too.
Only because in the time this thread has started to now I have got my new PC connected to the net and it took installing new drivers, enabling the LAN port in the BIOS and a reboot, but once done all I did was connect my cable up and I was away.
Did ipconfig again and it didnt read the ip/submask or default. I forgot I tried setting it to use a certain IP instead of automatic.
Tried ipconfig /renew (since it was already dropped) and it gave me "an error occurred while renewing interface lacal area connection 3 : unable to contact your DHCP server. Request has timed out.
It says "Local Area Connection 3
Enabled
I tried hitting repair again and it failed.
could perhaps the old motherboards drivers be conflicting with the new motherboards drivers??
Let's try something.
Go into the control panel
Select "System"
Under the Hardware tab click on Device manager
then go to the Network adapter
If the drivers are installed, you should see Realteak...
If the drivers have not been installed, you should see a peripheral with a yellow !
in both cases. go to the driver tab and then update drivers. Follow the steps to install them.
