Actually, funny story...that would almost work. Since most glossy laptop screen are actually matte screens with a glossy layer stuck on top, you could take it off and have a matte screen. I've seen it done with 7" netbooks, but nothing bigger.

Lol that sounds so risky. I personally love glossy screens though. Matte screens aren't THAT much better in the sun anyway so whats with all the hate? Maybe im missing something (or I just need to step out of my dungeon and in to the light once in a while.)

I was facing the same dilemma as that of yours. Since I hate glossy screens, just can't stand the reflection. The two models I was deciding between were the Inspiron 1520 (they have one matte model) and the Sager NP2090.You can opt either if them. Both of them have good features.

    now that i look..

    Asus Eeepc = Semi satin
    HP G60 = Semi satin
    HP dv6000m = Gloss
    Dell D410 = Semi satin

    looks like i lucked out.

i think the whole idea behind the gloss finish... it's easier to clean (finger prints, gunk, sneeze blasts) then the semi-satin finishes?

I don't think so. That stuff is much less noticeable on matte screens, and they're not really much harder to clean. I think the original idea was that it would make video viewing better..or something.
