homehub and how to kill it

hello everyone im wanting to pull a old trick out of a new hat.

currently in my new home i have a homehub from bt to access the internet but i want to get rid of the home hub and use a old asdl router from netgear what was in a previous install of mine.

the problem what i hit is when im asked for the username and password from the netgear router. i looked on the internet and found lots of articals saying that bt dont require a password anymore. and to use bthomehub@btinternet.com as a username. i tried this and it didnt work.

has anyone had experiances in swopping a homehub it should be a easy task but cant get on the internet with my netgear

Call up BT, they might be helpful in the matter... maybe not, but you can only try, can't you?

bt use your phonenumber as authentication. You could try entering that as your password, or just leave it blank.

EDIT: try using your btinternet email address as your username.

Most Netgear routers I've used have admin as the user and password for the password. Have you tried that combo? Just a little suggestion.

I think he means the username and password to access the internet, not the router.

no, i wanted the bt account information. i understand how this router works as iv used it to replace a bt router before.

i do not have a phone with the homehub because it runs off the landloards name and she got it removed. in the homehub its self its not showing any phone numbers the only thing of use is that it says username: bthomehub@btbroadband.com

iv tryed to use that before with a blank password but no joy, im thinking that i cant ring up bt because i dont have any account information or a telephone number to go off

searching thu the config of the home hub more and found this telephone line number. altho i dont understand it..

That telephone line number is the number for your broadband line. Thats why you have a service (line rental) charge on your broardband bill (i do anyway).
Thats the number they use for authentication.

oh yes sorry looking at the start of the number i relised that the 44 is the county code and the 114 was the area xD

so to use the password do i type 44114297xxxx, +44114297xxxx or 0114297xxxx

or is it best to use a combernation of either to see what works

went to plug the netgear in to try the phone numbers as passwords. when powering it on it worked with the old settings i had for some reason.

if anyone is interested i guessed the landlords email address by using
"letter of firstname.secondname@btinternet.com"

and password as
"bt"

it quite odd that it started to work now and didnt when i tryed to last use it. but hay im not complaining

Maybe it just had to warm up to it's new environment

I've had similar things happen with Cable modems, same settings as before...no worky....no worky... then boom it works no good rhyme or reason... Glad you got it working though!
