Default Lookin' for a gaming rig!

My buddy who is currently serving across seas at the moment is coming back for an unknown amount of time and wants to pick up a new gaming laptop while he's here. I currently don't have a reliable means to stay connected to the web so I need your guys help on this one.

He wants an alienware, but it doesn't have to be if there's a much better machine elsewhere. He also doesn't want to go over $1500.

So help me find the best gaming laptop for under $1500. Thanks!
People are stupid; given proper motivation, almost anyone will believe almost anything. Because people are stupid, they will believe a lie because they want to believe it's true, or because they are afraid it might be true. People’s heads are full of knowledge, facts, and beliefs, and most of it is false, yet they think it all true. People are stupid; they can only rarely tell the difference between a lie and the truth, and yet they are confident they can, and so are all the easier to fool.

1192.96+S&H, gives you a laptop, mouse, chill mat, and mousepad. Its not alienware, but it handles every game my roommate has thrown at it at med to high settings. just be sure to use the chilmat when gaming, it gets pretty toasty otherwise.

I would recommend a 5L Steel mouse pad. They're expensive but very nice. I've had mine for about 4 years now.

I don't think you can get much better than the Asus G73 at Best Buy.

    i7 CPU
    6GB RAM
    5870 Mobility
    500GB

    .
    $1,200.

Edit: And you can grab these at your local BB.

I would second the G73. Great machine, that. Looks like that's a G73JH-X1...and a good deal on it at that, I think that normally goes for ~$1,300. Might want to consider the G73JH-A2 though, for the upgrade from a 1600x900 to 1920x1080 panel. It is ~$250 more, though you also get a second 500GB HDD, and another 2GB of RAM.

G73 FTW. I managed to get my hands on a G71 and G72 in the last few weeks (just to work on, not to own.. *sigh* )

Sweet Zombie Jesus, that thing is a friggin' beast! Lol

Can someone build a similar or better setup with alienware while remaining under $1500? Just for comparison cuz' I know he really wants one.

Nope. If he wants to spend $1500, why not take x88x's advice and buy the upgraded model, which is an absolute tank. To get an Alienware M17x at the exact same specification, I priced it up on their site and you're looking at $2449. Edit: No, $2649. Almost double the cost.

I've had an Alienware laptop, and all it was good for was looking leet. One of the worst purchases I've ever made, and fortunately it died twice so I ended up getting a refund!
