one of this rails will hold the rip that covers the dvddrv. the construction itself would be 2 heavy for the drv tray i think.

will be mounted somewhere here!

some bending work

to hold the drv.

no swinging plz!

more drv support

some alu-covers for the wooden parts.

the tiny holes are for some smd status leds that will be mounted in the spine.

tiny plexi covers for tiny holes.

cables are running through a canal on the backside. will be filled with some putty.

i think i really need some light arround my slots

some smd leds will be mounted on the backside.

the QRS of the sidepanels will be similar to the one on the front and top. we´ll have just diffrent dimensions . 8mm bars and much stronger splints.

the bars mill be mounted on the mdf parts

the mdf is part of the topsection.

just some bondo to make it look a more smoother.

i think theese screws will give a nice clean look

cover for the mobo tray is mounted

the electronicstray needs an own io-bracket. subd plug for the remote controll, big plug for auxpsu , small one for the fan remote controll

mounted to the tray ...
just before somebody aks ...no, the soldering wont stay that bad

made a hole for the fan in the front panel

The holes on the inside get an extra plexi layer. the plexirings will be lighted up so every hole has it´s own corona. colours can change from red to white (later ... )

some more bending

this part will be mounted under the top of the case. nobody will ever see this but .. i give a f...

cause it prevents my fingers from getting in the fans. i can tell you that really hurts!

to light up the case just in pure white i´ll hide a lots of leds behind this plexibar. 20-30 ( only 900mcd. there´s no space for normal leds so i use smd leds ( plcc2) )

cya tomorrow ( hopefully )

today we start with the remote control. i used a part from an old front.

i dont want so many plugs, switches or whatever on the case itself so everything will be controlled from my desk.

i did some quick rendering with sketchup for the controlpanel. the 2 gray buttons on the left side will look like this in the final version.

the caps gonna cover some buttons. i am not shure wich shape they will have.

the big wheel in the center drives 2 potentiometers, one for the 230v fans , the other is for visualising the movement of poti #1.
it creates a signal for this little circuit

in this picture it´s running in dotmode, the final version will run the barmode but that needs some extra cooling i was quite 2 lazy for.

cutted and done for today ...

to light up the side panels i need some kind of pwr connector. normal plugs arent really an option so i had to find another solution. iīll use this copper sheets as connectors. flat sheets will be the counterparts on the panels.

mounted to the tray..

all parts painted with primer.

the steel parts of the case are finished, white, glossy. the foam rupper hopefully helps to reduce noise.

thx everybody for posting.
maybe some of you are already waiting for it ..here it is: THE UPDATE.
i have to confess itīs just a short one. more in the next days.

the cover for my dvd drv will be glued to this alu-sheet

the spine at the cover is made of plexiglas. light from leds will be reflected on the transversal faces. on half is for the hdd the other for the pwr led. the parts are divided by a thin layer of alu-foil

in the end it will look very similar to this.

the finished spine.

and the backside.

as seen on this pic the rips are still 2 big.
i had to wait with cuttin the rips until i knew the exact dimensions of the case. they weren´t fixed until the rubber was glued on.

this thing will be a tool to get the dimensions of the case on the top of the rips.

now i can lead a marker along the sheet and get a nice clean line.

after some work with the beltsander the filter of my mask looked like this:

the case...

i found some time to mod on and here are the results.

thats what we ended with in the last update.

i did just a rough cut, still wasnt shure about the dimensions.

but i looked good so i finished the first layer. in the end there will be 3 of them . 2 times wood and in the middle some plexi glas. ok it´s just clear styrene but it will do the job, too.

so next step was to paint the styrene. so no wood or yellowish colour from the plywood can be seen on the edge.

this cutout will be filled with a bunch of leds and some resistors
more about the led thing in the next days.

stay tuned ...
