I am, if nothing else, a gamer. I don't mean I like video games. I mean I spend my days at work organizing guild stats, or plotting my next moves ingame, or trying to scheme for ways to buy a new game. I spend my weekends firmly entrenched in this MMO or that MMO, amassing my personal fortunes. I plan my upgrades around major releases, and a proper surface for my mouse to ride on is high on my list of must have gear. Click here to continue reading.
I have the Hylian Shield tattooed on my right shoulder.
Where am I going with this?
I have problems with mice. Lots of problems with mice. So I spend lots of money on mice and mousepads. (Funny, that-mice, but it's mousepads...) Normally, I have a nice SteelSeries or other hard mousepad-I've made a few myself, as a matter of fact. However, my last homemade one was just too scarred to go on. I was using a sheet of paper (try it before you laugh) but it just wasn't smurfing.
While I was at work today, I took a good long look at the WOW!PAD mousepads we had hanging on the peghooks. This has literally been hanging there since I came to work there 18 months ago. So, I flipped the package over and read the pertinent information.
"WOW!PAD provides your standard or optical mouse the best surface tracking technology available. Your mouse glides smoothly over the WOW!PAD while its movements are accurately registered. WOW!PAD's patented design includes a super thin profile, our exclusive non-slip backing, is anti-static and easy to clean."
"WOW!PAD is the State-of-the-Art for Mouse surface technology."
That's a mouthful about a mousepad, so I grabbed my trusty non-working with a sheet of paper MX1100 and tossed her at it. She promptly skated right off the desk. Slick is a nice term, but there's much better ones that can't be used in polite company. It's Teflon coated, just like my mouse feet. I can almost blow on my mouse and move it. It's also tracking very accurately, after a sensor adjust. Before, I had problems with up and down due to the grain of the paper. Flipping it over, its surface is slightly tacky-it doesn't move when it's set down. I looked at it closely-I can't get it to photograph, but its back side is made of a tacky, almost thermal pad like substance bonded to the super-thin Teflon-coated plastic. It has a regular patter of indentions, and if I were a betting man, I'd bet that those indentions were like little suction cups. Pull a corner, it comes up easily. Drag across it with a wrist, it stays put.
Now, this is where it gets fun. If you want to know if it's a good gaming/Photoshop mousepad, yes, it is. However, what caused my great amusement was reading the fine print on the package.
"Antibacterial properties are built into the plastic to inhibit the growth of bacteria, that may not protect users or others against bacteria. The best way to remove bacteria is thorough cleaning."
Common sense. They have it. And believe me, it's in short supply these days. This makes this a no-brainer.
Let's break this down: (I love keeping you guys in suspense)
Pros:- It's big (11.5x12.5")
- It's subdued-I'm not having an eyes bleeding or cute attack every time I look at it
- It's super-slick
- It's super-stable
Cons:- Um.... *Butthead, what's a con?*
- *Uh, uh-huh-huh-huh I think it's like a criminal or something.*
- *You mean like Snoop Dogg?*
- *Huh, they said he was innocent.*
- (No, in fact I do not have a con for this.)
In closing, it's not just what the package said, it's far better. I'm calling this one of the sleeper product hits of 2009. If you can get your hands on one, do yourself a favor and try it. They're no-nonsense, works exactly as described and the company makes them both "green" and according to the rules of common sense. These guys have practically zero advertising, they're just out there. I purchased mine at Office Depot, for the princely sum of $9.19. My store had a ton, I'm sure yours does too.
For making what turned out to be the best mousepad evar in my opinion, I give the WOW!PAD a 5/5. Yes, I misspelled ever. You can also find them at www.microthin.com -give their products a look.
And if you'll excuse me, I have more games to play.
