[edit] What is Blender?

Blender is a free, open source, cross platform 3D application on par with many of today's standards in the industry. Blender was written in C++, and renders using OpenGL. It has a customizable, intuitive interface also built on OpenGL. Blender has many tools found in other programs, such as Radiosity, material/texture editing, boolean operations, subsurface modeling and animation. It also has a built in game engine, complete with physics. You can add, edit, and configure lights and backgrounds, and has many feature-enhancing plugins for everything, and can be used with many external renderers.
