Checking your current setup

Checking you current setup Check whats under the hood

To check what your system is running if you don't already know download CPUz [1] and GPUz [2]. These two programs give you information about your Processor and Graphics card. CPUz also gives you Memory and Motherboard information.

Checking to see what speed your hardware is running at etc is vital, if you overclock too far then you can kill your hardware, not a good thing.

When you have applied your first overclock, remember to check it for stability. When you are just jumping up a few MHz at a time then you do not have to stress it for hours, only do that once you think you have reached the maximum clock you want or the chip can push. Software such as OCCT [3] runs a great high stress test in 30 mins and can do what Prmie95 or Orthos can do in hours. I suggest once you reach the max you want you run this for at least 1 hour and maybe Prime or Orthos for 4-8 hours.
