[edit] Hammers 101

How to use a hammer:

[edit] Safety

Be careful when using a hammer, you could hurt yourself or worse, someone else!

[edit] Nails

When using nails be careful not to hit your fingers, line the hammer head with the head of the nail whilst holding the nail at the base in the location you wish to insert it.

Raise your arm, then bring your hammer down in a smooth movement, with some force behind it your nail should start bighting into the wood/item.

Once your nail has bitten you can remove your hand, then strike the nail as before but with more force this time, depending on the size this could be hard, or easy.

  • Thin nails go in with less force but tend to bend
  • Medium nails go in a little harder but still with little force, these also bend
  • Thick nails take considerable more force but are less likely to bend under the stress.

[edit] Removing nails

When you want to Remove a nail your really need to have a small part of the head protruding, line up the hook end of the hammer with the nail, slide the nail head in between the hook and lean the hammer and the nail will be removed.

This process can also pry parts apart.

[edit] Rounding

Some hammers have a round head instead of a claw, this is used to round an item off, normally metal, some hammers also have flat thin heads, these are used to pry parts apart also.

To round something off, line up the ball end of the hammer with said item in question, raise your arm, then bring your arm down, and in the process, when you strike push your arm forward, this will round the item off.
