Case bay LCD's are a great way to pimp out your case. The screens have a number of uses from displaying systems temperatures to the current song that has you have cranked up.

A few companies distribute LCD's that fit into cases but the most famous and notable is Matrix Orbital. There are also a large number of generic LCD's on the market. Of these generic LCD screens, most are actually the HD44780.

The Matrix Orbital LCD's along with a few other brand name units interface to the PC through USB either internally or externally.The HD44780, however, connects to the PC through the Serial Printer Port on the back of the motherboard.

Brand name screens come with bundled software. HD44780 screens can be controlled by freeware such as LCD Smartie for windows and jalcds for Linux.

Installation of LCD's screens is very easy. Simply decide if you wish to install the screen in an empty drive bay or cut a hole in your case for the ultimate in customization. Then wire up the LCD via a 4 molex connector for power and then the interface cable. Finally, install the software and you are in business.
