MEC
From TheBestCaseScenario
Methylene chloride or Dichloromethane
Colorless liquid with the appearance of water that is used to glue PMMA based plastics together. The glue is applied using a bottle with a needle like attachment. Unlike traditional glues however the two surfaces being fixed do not have to have the glue applied to each side and then be pressed together. This glue is run along the seem where the materials touch and will work its way into the join. Depending on the width of the join and how much MEC was used it can take various amounts of time to dry. On average the time to wait is very minimal before the materials no long require support to keep them in place while it sets. In most instances between 10 and 30 seconds is enough to set. Unlike regular glues this type chemically melts the two pieces of plastic together creating a permanent bond that is not effected by the presence of water.
Although it is colorless and resembles water it has a very strong odor to it and evaporates at room temperature very quickly. Care should be taken to avoid inhaling the fumes. Skin contact is not suggested for long periods of time. Although this compound is not corrosive it can cause a rash or other skin irritations. There should be an MSDS safety label on the container. Please do read this as it is important safety information.
