The multimeter is used to measure several properties of electricity such as voltage and amperage.

There are two basic types of multimeters. Digital and Analog.

Digital multimeter (shown in picture) have a large LCD to output the measurement. There was a time when these were not as accurate as Analog multimeters, yet with technology advancing, these are often just as accurate as it Analog brethren.

Analog multimeters,as mentioned above, used to be liked for their accuracy. However, today both types are just as accurate, the deciding factor is now price. Analog multimeters can often be bought for a fraction of the price of digital meters.
