Off the shelf modding

[edit] Musketeer 2

One of the most popular off the shelf mods available is known as the Musketeer 2, created by Cooler Master. The Musketeer 2 is a “System Dynamics Detector” designed to be mounted in an empty 5 1/4" drive bay. What the Musketeer does in plain English is visualize and allow you to adjust your computer’s sound levels and view your hard drive’s processing speed, using analog dials similar to that found in an automobile or airplane. In this digital age with LED screens on everything it is refreshing to see products that combine something like computer modding, with old fashioned analog dials and make it look amazing. And that is the real purpose of the Musketeer 2, to look great. While the sound levels and hard drive speed may be useful it is in no way vital information. In fact the predecessor to this product displayed more prominent information but alas the needles on the dials barely moved and therefore didn’t look as dynamic as people thought it should. The truth is when someone sees the Musketeer 2 in action for the first time their response is bound to be “Wow, that looks so cool!” and not “Wow, I can see your right and left channel sound levels!” The point is this product is a classic case of form over function. If you care about ascetics and you believe this product can accent your case then by all means get one, but if you’re looking for a dynamic sound board for your computer keep looking. With the ability to chose from 7 colors for the backlighting on the dials and two coming in two different face colors (black and silver), the Musketeer 2 is a great off the shelf mod that could fit in with almost any mod theme.
