Rivet gun

==A Riveting Experience== Rivet Guns

[edit] Basics

Rivet guns are very handy for attaching 2 or more layers of material together. The number of layers that can be riveted together are dependent on the length of rivet used. Typically in case modding they are used to hold the case framework together and in some instances to hold plexiglass to a window frame or other loose case parts in position. A preexisting hole is required for these.

[edit] Use

Place the long end of the rivet into the gun and then place the ball end of the rivet into the holes. Carefully squeeze the handles together. If the rivet does not pop on the first attempt, release the handles and squeeze together again. Taking caution by only partially squeezing the handles together will decrease your chances of ruining your pimp paint job.

If by chance you do scratch your paint (and depending on what color you have painted with) you might be able to get a bottle of appliance touch up paint to fix any mistakes.

[edit] Rivet Types

Aluminum pop rivets are suggested for items that do not require higher stress tolerance. Steel rivets are available; however, they are harder to drill out and put more pressure on the materials being held together.

The most commonly used size in cases is 1/8". However, larger rivets can be used if the rivet holes are enlarged. This can be accomplished quite simply by using a drill.
