right so i was watching all these window threads go by and decided to try it out myself. since i have a 250mm fan i've been holding off on making a window since it would be a small window and you would only see the bottem part of the motherbaord. since i bought my psu and they did a nice job of painting and spelling there name out i wanted to make a window to show it off. here is the psu.

http://inlinethumb09.webshots.com/10184/2386205970100511463S600x600Q85.jpg

i taped up my side panel and marked where i wanted to place the window.

http://inlinethumb30.webshots.com/7453/2720044450100511463S600x600Q85.jpg

then i grabbed a whole saw and started drilling only to realize the bit is dull. i got my dads father's day gift and sharped the bit with the drill doctor. then i tried a second time and still no luck. i got another drill bit and made the pilot hole. i changed back to the hole saw and tried making a hole but ended up making a mess. i got another hole saw and it was a bit bigger than i wanted but what ever. i got the first one done and started on the second. half way through the drill started smoking so i stoped. i was getting pissed so i walked away. i got the dremel out to cut the two straight lines and the stupid disc broke so i through the dremel on the floor and bent the shaft of the cutting disc holder, (don't remember what its called) the dremel was fine thankfully. so today i found a new dremel holder, and finished the job today. i think it came out nice and once i get some rubber striping and plexi i will back light it with leds.

rest of the photo's. Note: the fan is removed.

you can see in the pic below the second hole saw attempt didn't make it through. but it did cut deep enough to help the dremel make a pretty nice corner.

ooo, cool though this isn't going to be a big project. i'm going to be waiting for a bit for money and plexi. i have some LED's i'm working on to get better lighting right now.

Will you be air cooling or liquid cooling this one?

Spawn-Inc
08-18-2007, 08:14 PM
to start air, then water, and then if i am still on this website i would try a custom made 1 or 2 stage phase change since i'm getting into the trade. but the phase change would be 5 or 10 years downt he road.

right so it's been a while but i have gotten a bit father. i got some more LED's from LSdiodes.com (http://lsdiodes.com/) and resistors that i've used for the lighting. i got 4 8mm blue LED's that i frosted and mounted on a strip of double layered cardboard. i only have pictures of the installation since my camera was gone for the weekend. so without further ado, here are the pics.

http://inlinethumb53.webshots.com/18996/2785403860100511463S600x600Q85.jpg
i put a 1/4W 43Ohm resistor on each led and wired them in parallel.

soldered the wires and ready for testing.

i should have put in 5 and might add a 5th for the middle the next time i order leds but for now its fine.

now all i have left is some window trim and the window itself. i was messing around with putting mesh but i'm not sure i want it open.

with the leds, if you sand or file the tops of them flat they will give a much wider glow

Spawn-Inc
10-02-2007, 05:56 PM
^^ i did that, guess not enough i was considering cutting them at an angle and see how that would work but for the most part a 5th led would be ideal.

thx psychowit i spent 300 on that psu so i figure it should at the very least be shown off.

you get the best from them if you go as far as you can without damaging them

thanks :), i need to stop procrastinating and get myself a sheet of plexi glass to finish this thing off, but i'm still spending money on the internals.

Spawn-Inc
11-09-2007, 07:01 PM
no, not yet. i've been busy and haven't really got around to looking for plexi. money is really tight with only $80 every other week. and now i have car insurance to pay plus i just got a newer video card.

must be fun to have air blowing out of a hole in your computer...lol

Spawn-Inc

since its up near the psu it doesn't really seem to be blowing or sucking.

i was thinking i should add some mesh instead but i want to be able to see the galaxy logo. if i could find the same style of mesh as the other window that came with the case and then it will match a bit better. maybe once Christmas comes around i will have some extra cash i can go get some supplies.

That is probably when i will have the money to get the case for my mod (see sig)

looks like a good case mod, i voted for the red inside and black outside. nice window hehe:). hope you finish it unlike me, or faster anyway.

whats the of the saw you used to cut the case?

not exactly sure what your talking about, but i first tried to use a wood hole saw, 1.5" i think, then once it almost killed my dads drill i switched to a dremel.

where you talking about this picture (http://inlinethumb50.webshots.com/10865/2385279810100511463S600x600Q85.jpg)?

ow did u cut the shape? i want to make a window mod and im looking for somthing that will be small enough to cut shapes in the side of the case

Spawn-Inc
11-10-2007, 11:07 PM
i looked at roughly how big i wanted the window then got the bigged whole saw i had (1.5", maybe 2", not fully sure.) then i just traced 2 circles out and connected the lines from the edges of the two circles to make a long rounded shape. here (http://inlinethumb30.webshots.com/7453/2720044450100511463S600x600Q85.jpg) is the second picture from the first page that shows the markings

how did u cut the curves so well?

Spawn-Inc
11-10-2007, 11:33 PM
the first of two holes was cut completely by the hole saw and the second hole was cut about halfway and then i stopped because it was screwing up the drill and almost killed it. i wasn't sure how to finish so i got out my dremel and carefully started to cut away at it. with a little bit of sanding it came out pretty good. the bottom line is a bit slanted but i can fix that with trim or what ever i cover it with.
