The modders challenges are mainly donation and only come out of one person's pocket. What if there was a money pot with say, a 5 dollar entry? .50 cents from each entry goes towards the forums or something then the rest goes to winner of the modders challenge? Maybe even a raffle?

I dunno, I just thought it may push more people to contribute/ participate here in the forums.

Names could be:

TBCS Mini Lotto
Modders Money Pot

I dunno. Just throwing an idea out there.

Sounds like a good idea in theory but i don't think it would work out at all. Modding competitions really don't have a very good "grading" or "scoring". When you've got pretty much just personal preference from who ever is judging on something like this, with money involved, it normally doesn't turn out that well.

It would just cause more headaches for the mods, admins, and everyone participating.

Honestly I think the donation way of doing it is the best way to get things done for a site like this. Company sponsorship or something for a competition would be nice, but honestly all the companies we think of when we think of computers and modding are big time companies. And if they participate with a competition or something like that they want coverage, national/worldwide type of coverage.

The donation type help keeps this a tightknit community. I'm sure we all have tons of stuff lying around that would be great prizes for something like that (like TGS competition) just guess we just have to look around and see what we have that would be a good prize. Everyone has stuff, its just the money and cost and such for shipping to everywhere in the world and such that I bet is what stops alot of people from starting stuff like this. Idk just ranting I suppose.

Ya, that is true... that still leaves the mini lotto idea. Instead of 5 numbers, make it 1 or 2 depending on the number range. I'm sure someone could/has programmed a random number roller app that can be ran by Paul.

**1-3 dollars for a "ticket" (one entry per person)
**.25 cents for each ticket goes towards the forum
**no winners = prize carries over to next week
**must have 100 posts to play

I mean, hey... 20 entries = 15 bucks for the winner / 5 dollars for the forums if each ticket is a buck. Hell, everyone could afford a buck a week.

This would be a weekly flow of cash to help Paul/the forums every week.

I think the better part of things like this is when it's free. I wouldn't pay to stay here, I don't mind donating when I have the cash, but I really like having a little money for games and stuff that I usually don't have. Most kids about 13-18 (maybe) don't have much cash and definitely won't pay to come here unless they have a job of their own. Sure $4 a month is not much, but that's $4 towards PC components and I don't have a job atm.

I know you're probably not saying to charge access to the forums, but that's an easy misperception. ;)

Honestly, I'm not sure how you got that out of my idea haha

I was just saying it could be a cheap weekly activity that would be fun and help lighten the weight of hosting.

Ohhh... lol. I don't know either, I just seem to see things in a different light from most people.

Not a bad idea though, maybe even something that's not too complex or anything like modding a whole case, maybe just small additions or changes or something to things. Hmm...

It's cool that you guys are generating ideas for the community, I'm glad to see it. About the Modders Challenge, we do not want to have an entry fee for anyone as this may exclude some from participating and the idea is that anyhone with a pencil and paper is a potential candidate. As for donating to the server, I again want to extend a thanks to all of you who have helped out. You really are a great bunch of people and this is home to many of us. The donation request is only a temporary one, soon we will be opening the floor to computer related advertising which will cover the server fees, we just need a puch to get there. We have much planned for you all, big fun and secrets divulged. I doubt we would like having a raffle as it would involve money exchanges on the server which we want to avoid, but nice idea all the same. Thnaks guys!

I agree with Jon. Charging an entry fee for the Modders Challenge would exclude a lot of people (yes we have talked about this idea) and it was decided to keep it free. Most of the prizes donated so far came with no strings attached in the form of advertising. I think it really depends on the company. Most of them are willing to donate for the interest in the product that is generated. I am working on something for the next challenge... (shh it's supposed to be a secret!) ...

EDIT: BTW once you bring $$ into the equation, things get touchy and people start to take things personally and we want to avoid that. Plus it allows others to "compete" in a non hostile kind of way. I know that if I plunked down cash (even $5) I would expect to see "why, how, when, what" in the details of who wins...

Exactly.
