I like the fact that I can leave something down and within 10 second it will be indistinguishable from the rest of the mess :D

I like the chilling area :) Mine is in my living room with an HTPC. I think that's a must have to change ideas

I'll post some photos of my livingroom, build room, and mechanical room after this weekend.. I'm moving into my new place, and got my internet and cable tv hooked up today. :D
Rather than an HTPC for me, I'll be using (temporarily, until I build a proper HD capable HTPC) an Xbox, running XBMC. There will in fact be 3 xbox's in the house doing this.. living room, master bedroom, and in the basement. All will access the music and movie collection stored on a server box in the basement under the stairs. The one in the basement will also be connected to the coax cable distribution through the house, so allow that source to watched by any tv connected to it. The Xbox itself will be controlled remotely by PC, PDA, or computer through a web interface.
Yes, I'll post all the pics I can after we move in. :D

My living room is almost finished; only miss the TV :D
For now I'm using a 19 monitor, but I'll get a 32" LCD TV taht can be hook by VGA. that way it will be HD ready ;)
I hope I can get it at the boxing day, so pics after that.
It's so fun to have your media (audio and video) on one server. That way you can listen to anything anytime you want

I'm lucky that when I sold Karma, I got $1200, which was just enough to get the 37" Sharp Aquos I wanted. My living room is just waiting on the audio system to get completed. New speakers are being built asap...
I was just cruising Parts Express (http://www.partsexpress.com) and found a home audio distribution system for DIRT CHEAP. The main control box is $220 USD, then I need a cat5 run to each room I want to have audio in. After that, I just need to add the speakers, and the volume pad (or volume control, depending on your preference of terms).
For a source, the aforementioned Xbox in the basement will be controlled through a web interface on my PDA or laptop, and the volume will be controlled by the dial in the room. Would make for a super nice setup in the kitchen.. no wires, no speakers taking up space.. they'll be in the ceiling. :D PDA is small enough to pocket it, and you can run the whole system through that web interface.
I'm sooo stoked on this build.. :D
Also, 19" Acer widescreen LCD's are like $180 right now, so I might get one of those for the master bedroom, and run it off the xbox with a converter box. Yay! 720p video on the cheap!

Mine is cool because I currently have no desk. That's right. My PC is sideways on the floor with a monitor on top.

Tonight I just bought me a tool and plenty of wood. Got a jigsaw, as I wasn't going to be building what I am going to be with a freaking mini hacksaw. Ohh no not this time.
I just don't have enough space to work in this apartment. And with 4 desktops, 3 laptops, and a g3 imac = no space in general.
So I bought some wood to build another desk.
30" high x 90-96" wide x 24" deep.
It will have a place for the computers, and deskspace to work and build and such. Not sure if I will make it my new desk or put it on the other wall and make it for Project: Alb and the other pcs. Have to think about that.
The top will have some nice tiles. I found some SICK fire onyx tile that was green, black, and red. If only it wasn't $9 a square foot. As I need 16. It was seriously sick. I couldn't find a pic on their site but it was awesome. I will settle for another type of tile. Am looking now for the right one.
Once I get this built I will throw up pics of my new setup!

Well, today I made major progress on my secondary desk area that I bought materials for. Im too beat to get photos going right now but the frame is completely built. The top is attached, and the tiles are in place (for now).
All thats left is to sand down the plywood under the tiles so the tiles are even. Then add trim around the edge of the desk portion. And add walls and backing material to the two "cablinet" portions. Easy beans. Just won't be able to till this weekend as I have to go to thanksgiving dinner at the girlfriends house, and to my families the next day. So I should be back on track on Saturday. I did all that work today and cooked a Thanksgiving dinner for the girlfriend and me for our own thanksgiving, as this is our first holiday in the new apartment.
As for the tile I chose, I did not use regular tile. The top of the desk is completely made out of MARBLE. I got a killer deal at Home Depot for some sick marble tiles. $.99 a sq. ft. You can hardly get plain white tiles for that much money. So for $15.86 + tax I got myself a marble desktop! I'm proud. This is going to be killer when its done. Wasn't meant to be a fancy desk, just a place for the pc's and workspace so for the most part ive been using budget materials. But comeon for $.99 a sq.ft. for marble, I couldn't resist!!! I will get some pics hopefully the beginning of this coming week for you guys. Should be done by then.

What makes my workspace so cool?
I'm in it :D
I wish I could post a picture of it here. Cyber security prevents me though. Corporate workstation: 1 PC, 4 19" monitors. EMS (watching the energy grid) workstation: 3 PC's 10 monitors. That's not to mention the data center.. 1200+ servers, robotic tape libraries, EMC2 SAN boxes, 3 mainframes.. yeah, it's teh Sex0Rz

I finished the desk I mentioned. I have a couple more pics up in My Mods of it.

Nice for what I wanted and what I spent ~$80. A nice solid workspace with plenty of storage.
Now I have to clean up my gaming area that is directly across from it. This is all messy as I haven't been over here in like a month lol. The printer is just on the ground because it wanted to be stupid and I had a huge program due and it didn't want to print it. So ya lol. This will be cleaned and I will work on my wire management lol. Like I said I haven't been over here in like a month it seems.

And the girlfriend and I have been talking about buying posters for the walls here, but so far we haven't. The damn tall beige walls look really boring now in these pics. Looks like I will have to throw that Dinosaur poster that came in the National Geographic my mom gave me.

ha ha dinosaurs rock!
i also like the tower of speakers. what is that, 4 to each channel? :P
NightrainSrt4
11-29-2007, 08:01 PM
Ya it is 4 to each channel lol. I used to just have them in more of a surround sound configuration at my old place but here I just piled them up. Most of them are from old broken stereos but I couldn't justify throwing them away because they all worked.
It works well and sounds good to me so I dont mind. I know some audiophiles would have a heart attack but I like it that way. What can you do with a system that only supports two channels anywho lol. Just throw more speakers on it!
I want to strip all the speakers out of those cases and just build one condensed speaker tower and redo all the wiring. But thats another project for later.
billygoat333
11-29-2007, 08:03 PM
ha ha very true. @ one time we were running 10 speakers out of a 4 channel cheapo rca stereo. had ceiling mounted speakers and everything! lol. good times, i miss my first year of college.
NightrainSrt4
11-29-2007, 10:25 PM
Lol. 10 speakers, thats two more than this lol. I don't think it would looks so ghetto if I just built them all into one box. That way it looks like one speaker. Wouldn't make sound quality any better but ehh it rocks the games I play.
Are there resonance issues and such if I strip all those speakers out and build a box out of mdf or plywood? I wouldn't think so seeing as how those are all crappy plastic speakers. I would just hate to break them or have it sound like arse.
billygoat333
12-01-2007, 02:04 AM
i doubt it. the only way you might not get the same quality is if the speaker is supposed to be ported... just for bass really. which i'm sure you could port a tower of speakers somehow. would be a cool mod! :) could make a badass speaker tower rig. :)
