So I got a kodak camera for my birthday, im not a fan of taking pictures or being in pictures, so i figured i would turn it into a "taser" via the hundreds of guides on instructables. This was my first time trying to make one so yeah...

I open the plastic case skimming through the tutorial, I charge up th flash so i can use it and drain the initial charge.

Well I couldnt get the actual picture taking button to work, so i read on, then i realize i was suppoose to wind it first (duh) so i wind it with the flash already charged and BOOMM I freaked out and my arm went flailing, Imagine hitting your funny bone but instead you feel that through your entire arm and hand. Crazy ass tingles.

It didnt really hurt, it was just SHOCKING, mentally and literally.
Now Im trying to decide if i want to continue working on it, or even if i should actually try it on a friend....

Anyone else try thiis? (fingers are still a little twitchy cause it literally happened 10 seconds before i wrote this)

If you happen to try it on a friend that has a previously undetected heart condition, you're looking at 8-15 for manslaughter.

You want to experience "crazy ASS tingles"? I bet that will be arranged at your local state penitentiary, daily, and free of charge by your new friends there.

As a wise man once said: Don't tase me, bro!

The Wise Capello has spoken. (and basically what I was going to say too)

Yes i know, Im not going to taze someone who is physically going to have a problem with it. It only releases ~300v, which wont cause any problems unless you have a major health problem, pacemaker, cardiovascular issues, seizures ETC. I know my friend doesnt have any issues.

Wise men dont wait around to be tased, they know to listen to the cops the first time.

Maybe ill just ask him and let him do it -.-

Cops who tase first thing are stupid. It's meant to be a lifeline, a backup, not a first line of defense.

Lifeline? No, bullets are. First line of defense? No. Words are.

The police asked him for the mic back because he kept going on and on about stuff that doesnt need to be discussed at that point or place. He refuses to give them the mic, so they attempt to escort him out, he resists arrest, and it eventually leads to him becoming tazed.

The cops didnt know if he would become enraged and attack john kerry, or somehow start a riot. All they are concerned of is the overall safety of the public.

After he was dropped to the floor, I assume he continued to struggle against the cops.
He could have been carrying a knife or any other dangerous object, when someone starts freaking out are you going to let them gain control and potentially kill/injure someone? Or are you going to use a taser and subdue them with a non-lethal weapon, that does practically no harm to you, unlike if they decided to pull out their nightsticks and start bashing him, which there would be a questionable tactic.

Actually, it is meant as a first line of defense and not a backup. Of course the key word is defense, not attack. The old methods (fists, billy clubs, etc...) of defense are the ones that were really dangerous for both police and policed. Now it's the firearm which is the backup, and personally I'd rather get zapped than clapped.

honestly in my experiance as a door man at a local bar here. most people will agree to do what ever you like providing your being polite and reasonable. this is something that needs to be ajusted on alot of police as far as i can see. i find they have very little restraint about using physical force including but not limited to the use of taser guns pepper spray and their fists.

A taser weapon is not a toy and i strongly advise against using it on your buddies as such. This device, although non lethal in most cases, can cause serious injury or death. i know your saying i know my friends. i know they dont have a heart condition. but do you in fact acctually know? unless your a certified medical professional that has done the tests on them i would probably steer clear of tasering your buddies. a few cheap laughs are probably not worth the gamble really.

high voltage is fun but dangerous.. sorry to be a wet blanket

Ya, def don't go using that on other people. Before I got my surgery one my buddies did something similar to me and it was not a good situation. It felt like I was having a heart attack. Couldn't breathe right for a couple of days.

Then again, my heart and lungs were literally being CRUSHED by my chest wall and the doctors feared I could have a heart attack at any time just during normal activity, nonetheless anything like that.

I hadn't told my friend about my condition at that time because I didn't want to worry him. In retrospect I should have, because they could have killed me without even knowing/meaning to.

Ehh...

haha i was messing around with one of those camera's (for the flash to blind my older bro :)) and i accidentally touched the solder pins sticking out near the button to charge the flash cap. it stabbed a small hole in my and burnt the skin.

and as for the cops who are to dumb, retarded and lazy to tackle some guy (i'm talking about the last guy who died from a taser at the airport) they need to learn the taser is for when you want non lethal (guess not all the time) force against people who are ARMED!!!!!!, not angry and walking around swearing.

there was also another taser abuse by the cops a week or so ago. there was a man crossing the highway with nothing in his hand, not fighting anyone or anything, simply crossing the highway illegally, though i don't think there is a legal way to anyhow. there was 3-4 cops who could have easily tackled him to the ground but they tasered him. if they where scared he had some kind of gun/knife in his pants or on his body then could have gotten away with some pepper spray.

NOTE: i know not all cops are stupid, lazy, etc just the stupid ones make it on tv the most.

You know why? Because like bad news, stupidity sells. Two Jackass movies have proven that.

I took apart a disposable camera for no reason ( seriously I was bored) and shocked myself and it wasn't fun at all. I would advise against using it on other people.

my friend made one of those, you held the shoot button in to charge it then push it against something, i was stupid enough to let him do it to me on my forearm, wasnt the smartest thing ive done and really hurt :( so yeh i wouldnt do it on anyone else unless there stupid enough to let you.

and first post :) <3

good/bad news?

I cant get it to charge up the flash again (since i tased myself the first time)
the led wont light, nothing is being discharged, no buzzing.

All im getting out of it is a component seems to be heating up and thats it. Heres a picture of someone elses pcb, since i dont want to go looking for my camera. I cant tell exactly which piece is the one im talking about, since mine only has one and the one in the picture has two..
any idea's of why its not working?

I'm kind of uneasy with this discussion being carried on in the forums. I don't think there is anything illegal about it, but you are discussing a rather dangerous process of converting a camera into a weapon. If you are successful, you could hurt someone else, if unsuccessful, you could hurt yourself. I'm going to close this because it just seems like a bad idea to me, sorry holmes but there are lots of hardware hacking sites out there which I'm sure have whatever information you are looking for.
