Do you guys like go offline and unplug the phone line from whatever you are using when there's rain + lightning? Modem was struck once few years back, now I practice that all the time lol. Especially last nite when the sky was as bright as daytime with repeated lightning and thunder.

I don't, but my modem disconnects from the internet whenever there is lightning. I should probably have the phone line for it go through the surge protector, though.

Nope. Never had an issue with lightning. Then again my house has like 8 grounding points.

Years ago when I lived in Colorado, I was sitting in my living room watching a movie when lightning struck my neighbors solar panels. The hair all over my body stood up as debris rained down in our yard. A couple years before that (in a different house), I was bbq'ing during a freak storm and watched lightning hit a wind turbine across the field from me. The turbine landed on the owners truck...

I usually shutdown my PC when there's a thunderstorm (well, when it gets closer than about 3/4 miles), and unplug it if there's a lot of lightening.
I do tend to leave the router and server up, tho...

I've been tending towards ignoring the storms recently, and I know I probably shouldn't...

EDIT: my internet does go to sh*t when it rains heavily, but I think that's due to water getting into somewhere it shouldn't and I can't do a lot about it, seeing as everything in the house works fine...

I've got all my equipment on surge protectors, and my modem/router running through a surge protector AND a UPS. Double the protection plus I can still surf on my laptop when the power goes out. :)

I have all of my stuff on surge protectors, even still if the power goes off once and comes back on I normally shut everything off. There's just something about trusting thousands in electrical equipment to a forty dollar box that I'm unsure of.

We shut down the computer and unplug all the major things from the wall. I even find all my charging electronics I.E iPod,PSP,DS, and other little knick Knacks I own. We are to cheap to own all these surge protectors you guys have.

I have no surge protectors, and I never unplug anything. Ever.
I have been online before when my computer just shut off, but never been disconnected or anything else.

The tuner in the TV that I have in my room, and the DVD player that was connected to the tv, even though it was plugged into the composite input died when lightning struck nearby. The old VCR that used to be plugged into the same jack also had its tuner killed by nearby lightning. The new tv and cable line are now connected to a surge protector.

Heh... not long after I posted my above comment, we got hit by a bunch of powerfailures that took out my PC...
and just as I thought it was safe to restart it, out again. x.x

Thankfully, no FS damage (except to the external HDD, but I was meaning to format that anyhow.) and everything is still working. :)

Still can't afford a UPS, which is a shame. :(
