You do know that all Nintendo stuff uses weird star shaped bolts. You need a special "Nintendo" tool to take it apart. Looks really cool, reminds me of the one over at Bit-Tech.

its just a torx screw

The boy 4rm oz
10-26-2008, 09:40 AM
I tried a torx driver when i tried to pull mane apart to make a clear plexi case for it and they didn't fit for me. Oh well, worth a shot.

nevermind1534
10-26-2008, 11:10 AM
It's like an inverted torx. You can get the security bits on ebay, or make your own by melting a plastic rod. Other than that, they're the same as NES screws, but with a different head, and the ones inside are Phillips, and they're exactly the same as the ones in the NES.If you want a bit from ebay, search for "gamebit" and you will get a list of them. Make sure you get the right one, because they come in two different sizes.

im pretty sure i will need a standard 5/32 socket screw driver like seem in this video

nevermind1534

10-26-2008, 04:59 PM
well... Canadian tire didn't have the socket screw driver i was looking for so i checked the dollarama and found this...thing, unfortunately it didn't fit
http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/mm81/895232/comp/DSCF2843.jpg
so i used a bit of "persuasion" http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/mm81/895232/comp/DSCF2844.jpg
that did the trick
http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/mm81/895232/comp/DSCF2845.jpg
I then followed the video, here it is disassembled
http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/mm81/895232/comp/DSCF2847.jpgheres the empty shell with the primar and paint
http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/mm81/895232/comp/DSCF2848.jpg
here it is with the gamecube and ati logos taped off
http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/mm81/895232/comp/DSCF2849.jpg
and finally here it is with the primar on
http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/mm81/895232/comp/DSCF2850.jpg
ill let it sit a few hours and then ill paint it black, so expect that update later tonight

985323
10-26-2008, 08:39 PM
heres the other update
i started painting it black
http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/mm81/895232/comp/DSCF2851.jpg
here it is a couple of hours later after a few touch ups, don't worry about the darker parts thets where i touched up and it wasnt dry yet gamecube log came out nicely...wish i could say the same about the ati logo
http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/mm81/895232/comp/DSCF2852.jpg
now to let it sit and dry for a day or two, also i was able to salvage the power switch which i hope to use http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/mm81/895232/comp/DSCF2854.jpg
that is all for now until i order my parts
all comments and critisism welcome

10-27-2008, 02:15 AM
Just an idea, but you should try and re use the controller ports as custom usb ports. And then make the ones for your keyboard and mouse for this machine the same way. That would be really cool in my opinion.

I would put all of the ports on the bottom, where the expansion ports were, except for 2; maybe DVI or vga, or you could wire up the motherboard to the existing ports.

If you want to use that power switch, you need to modify it to be a normally open, momentary style. It's actually not too hard to do, PM me if you want some help with it. :)

Have you got a controller for this thing too? You should take one apart, and see if it could be used as a remote, or a controller or something.

985323
11-29-2008, 04:37 AM
yea i kinda already figured that out about the switch, but im not sure where i put it ( im a klutz) so i was thinking about a normal switch. no i didnt get a controller but i am thinking about it

Small update, got a package in the mail today, not sure if ill use one for this project or not.
Today arrived 3 Viewsonic 15" LCD Flat Panels
Heres one of everything from the box
http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/mm81/895232/DSCF2951.jpg
one of the power supply and buttons
http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/mm81/895232/DSCF2952.jpg
and one of a pannel
http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/mm81/895232/DSCF2953.jpg
what do you guys think i should do?

Datech
02-27-2009, 03:37 PM
Well, you could mount them together and let the GameCube have a DisplayTriangle. Or get another LCD and make a DisplayCube. This wouldn't exactly be the most functional for you, but it'd be cool.

02-27-2009, 07:48 PM
Hmm I have a thought on the optical drive. Although I am not sure it would work because of the gamecube uses minidisks. Anyways my first thought would be to take a normal laptop optical drive, strip it of it's shell and mount it where the gamecube drive is normally. But I dont think normal 120mm CD/DVD disks fit, I remember contemplating buying a replacement case because it was clear, and all of them were modified so you could fit a normal size DVD inside. Would be kind of a waste to get one of those at this point though.

You should make some kinda GC controller to USB adapter and keep the stock ports. That would be pretty neat.

*Edit: Ever see the Panasonic Q (http://personal.telefonica.terra.es/web/mallorcadisco/infoconsolas/fotos/Panasonic/Panasonic%20Q/panasonic-gamecube1.jpg)?

Ok so the motherboard came today and I got a surprise, the IDE is smaller than a regular and NOT a floppy, so either need to find a converter or find a way to run both the dvd drive and hdd of the one sata. any ways gues i should post some pics of the board.
First off, OMG look how small this thing is
http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/mm81/895232/P1050562.jpg
then check out the power supply and what it uses to connect to the board
http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/mm81/895232/P1050570.jpg
http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/mm81/895232/P1050571.jpg
as you can see I have Plenty of room
http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/mm81/895232/P1050563.jpg
then i have many differnet ways of fitting it all in heres three
http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/mm81/895232/P1050565.jpg
http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/mm81/895232/P1050566.jpg
http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/mm81/895232/P1050567.jpg
heres some work I did, I made the hole for the power with my "dremel"
http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/mm81/895232/P1050569.jpg
and finally, the difference of size i ide ( grey is the one it came with, black is the one i need to use)

Does your 2.5" HDD retrieve data and power through the same cable? May explain why the cable doesn't fit.

Love the board though, I want to get one really bad lol.

985323
06-16-2009, 04:16 AM
The hdd is sata, the dvd drive is IDE, the board has one sata port

985323

yeah i just looked at it. the ide port is for a laptop ide hdd. the old ata-6 i beleive. that is why it wont fit right. try and look for a ata6 to ide or ide to ata6 adaptor. other than that it is looking awesome man.

http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/mm81/895232/P1050578.jpg
inside is very cramped, and this is without the dvd player, wich will be going in when the adapter gets here in 1 day
