...to help us expand on an idea that the staff have been tossing around. We were thinking about writing one or several versions of an advertisement/invitation to post on as many craigslist boards as possible. We were thinking that because computer modding seems to be mainly unheard of in the general population, spreading the word to folks looking for entertainment or general computer help/knowledge might boost the modding population and bring in some fresh ideas. Would you folks like to work on this writeup with us in a brainstorming session for a proper advertisement? If we get a few good drafts we can start a list of cities and spread the word throughout our local communities, could even end up in some cool LAN parties down the road. Thoughts?

I would very much like to be part of this. I have taken so much from TBCS from the few years I have been here and this would be a great way for me to contribute back to the forums and not just my general knowledge lol.

I know for a fact that the modding seen in Australia is quite small and this would be a perfect way to introduce people to modding and enlighten them to the fact that their PC can be much much more than a beige box.

Awesome! Thanks for the community spirit and willingness to get involved! Things to do now is to brainstorm some content by throwing out some ideas of what TBCS has to offer the average person who would not have otherwise looked us up. Here are some things that we turned up in the staff discussions:

Stuff to focus on could be solutions to computer problem/questions, family activity (actual modding, not reading the website), worldwide journalistic exposure, art showcasing, modeling, tech news, etc...

"Home of modding on the Web"
"The only place to see the work of Paul Capello, author of Maximum PC Guide to Extreme Modding"

"Affordable father and son hobby"
"eliminate your reliance on tech support and learn how your computer works, the fun way"

Target Youngsters, Older people, Uber-geeks, and noobs? Ideas?

See if you guys can come up with some more ideas and then we can use those to put together some ads. And, if some members show superior writing skills and creativity, it may lead to us inviting you to join or journalism team. We have some very cool new news projects coming up and there is room for expansion.

Craigslist won't let you post identical ads. We tried that on another board that I'm on. And most of the groups advertising are gay/lesbian boards.

You mean we couldn't post identical ads in multiple cities?

Yes

Was it from one account or multiple accounts?

It was different people posting in different cities.

Hmm. Perhaps we could post small ads in our local newspapers. It would be at a cost but I think it would be effective. Or we could ask local Internet Cafes if they would hand out flyers to customers. We have 3 quite good ones here in Adelaide that I am sure would be more than happy to hand out flyers if they were delivered to them.

Flyers is a good thought but I don't want anyone paying anything for this. I didn't know that CL would no run them. Maybe local newspaper website classifieds are free, not sure. Any other ideas?

I'm thinking the Internet Cafes is quite a good idea or your local PC repairs/tech store. If you tell them it's just about making your PC beautiful and not steal their customers they may consider. GAM (one of our members) owns a PC modding/watercooling store here in Australia, great guy. He already has his site advertised on here, he may consider advertising TBCS on his main page.

If you want to stick up a few posters, go for it. Just don't go overboard.

Also, the best way to get real members is through word of mouth, tell your friends about us! I'm trying to get a friend of mine to sign up, but he's resisting...I'll bag him in the end!
