Well after 3 weeks or so of no cable due to a construction error in my neighbor hood I am back.

Some utilities contractor was doing some underground boring installing a new fiber optic line and somewhere in the 3 miles they bored they cut the main cable feed to my neighborhood. It took the cable company 2 weeks to locate the break and a week to repair it. In reality I think it took a few hours to find it and a few weeks to get off their ass and fix it. They certainly were not losing much $$ with only customers without service. This almost made me want to switch to DSL but with a max of 700kbs I just couldn't do it. I need that 6mbs for my file transfers to my wedding album publisher.

So I'm back. I have a few new ideas for some quick case mods and have been working on a new circuit for my Circuit thread.

Who is your cable provider? If you have fiber to the neighborhood like I do (with medicom) then it could take a week to find the the location of the break and then they have to decide to splice it or run a new fiber. At the same time they're probably trying to extract some money out of the contractor that hit their lines. Make sure to call up the billing department to get refunded/compensated for the 2 weeks without service (most cable companies will do this).

Its all been taken care of I was credited for the month and was given a free 3 moth upgrade to several of the movie channels.

From what I understand from a friend who works for the cable company the line that was cut was not fiber and they found it using some type of locator that they held while walking above where the cable is buried.
