View Full Version : Streaming a feed from my computer?
I'm wondering if anyone knows of any software or something, where I can stream a live feed from my computer. Basically, I want so whatever I see on my monitor, can be streamed to someone else online. I have no idea how I'd do this. Any ideas?

Do you want multiple people to be able to view or just like a one on one thing?

Check out http://www.procaster.com/ I am not sure what the cost or if there is any cost associated at all but it says it will broadcast anything including your screen.
I'm sure I could find a use for streaming to multiple people, but for this specific incident I'm probably looking to do it to just one person. I'll go take a look at your link there in a minute.
Alright, so I've checked out procaster, and it seems to do what I want. However, the free version is limited to the speed it can broadcast, which makes it sort of choppy. If I could somehow get my computer to recognize my video output to my monitor as a video input, then that would work wonderfully. Then I can select that as an input when just doing a regular video broadcast, as I would for a webcam. I was able to do that once, when I had a capture device. I could plug an s-video cable from ym video card output into the capture device. That was my best solution. Can't do that anymore though.

Ok well if your just going to share with one individual there are several solutions that we use at work.
WebEx (http://www.webex.com)
Go To Assist (http://www.gotoassist.com)
Logmein (www.logmein.com)
Most of them have some sort of free usage, and then a premium tier for expanded capabilities. I have used each one at some point or another and they seem to work pretty well.
Also I found this article that has a list of free options as well.

Good luck, hope one of these will fit your needs.

I found a great collection of "G" Rated Cams over on Webcamgo. (http://www.webcamgo.com/)
for those of you who want to travel from the privacy of your home, or office.

WebcamXP (http://www.webcamxp.com/home.aspx) looks like a good one.
Here (http://www.webcamxp.com/ipcams.aspx) is the list of supported IP Webcams.

Doesn't VLC support this kind of thing? I thought that was its original use, but often just gets used as a player. I found a few pages about streaming an input stream over the internet, but it looked to be a CLI so not sure if that's as easy to use for you.
