Well I am not sure if there are any Trekkies out there, but I just got back from seeing the movie. I won't give out any spoilers, but they definitely changed it up some and deviated from the established Trek universe. At least they did it with some logic. Over all its a decent watch, action and special effects are great. For the folks that have never seen Trek they will be able to enjoy it without having any previous Trek knowledge. I will save any more opinions I have until later so as not to spoil it for anyone else.
IF you ARE a Trekkie, and you want to get the full storyline of the movie, I HIGHLY recommend that you get a hold of 4 comic books entitled Star Trek Countdown. They were written by the producer because they just couldn't fit it all into the movie. They give a lot of the back story that happens right before the movie begins. And there is a lot of information that they only touch on in the movie itself. The comics contain absolutely no spoilers, and really let you know why what is happening in the movie is happening.
There will be a lot of Trek fans completely pissed, but if you approach it with an open mind it is a pretty decent movie.
Live long and Prosper.

I am trying to convince one of my friends to go as a Storm Trooper.
Having said that, I have every intention to go see it tomorrow night.

Trying to get 2 of my friends to go with me on Saturday. I don't like going to movies alone. Googling the comic books now.

Awesome! Want to see this so bad!
i was the fist person in the UK to see it, i was the first person in the first public showing yesterday,
i am a massive ST fan, and even i liked it, they way they made it is bloddy amasing, they surpassed themselves really.
I recommend it even if your not a ST fan, it makes an excelent action film, action from the beginning to the end.
I hope they do another one in the same style

I thought it was amazing. They made it so they can make more movies in the future. I liked it. It's still Star Trek even though the style is a little different.

I just got back from watching this. I loved the story line and the visual effects. Leaves a lot for other movies. Lets you leave thinking where could this Star Trek Universe go?

well what seems cool is you could branch off multiple ways with it -- either to the beginning of the first series, or off in to a different universe that utilizes some of the "alternate" characters that are in the movie.

If I was to dress up as a character from a different movie to see this, I do believe I would go as an agent.
That being said, I may go see this on Monday.

I don't think I could pull that off. An agent I know I could pull off. Smith especially.

If I were to go dressed as a Matrix character I'd probably just dress in the style of them... never been much into cosplaying anyone beside myself. :\
