Went to visit my mom and brothers in NH. My father always had nice stereo systems that he made my mom buy, and I remembered as a child that he always kept the most recent old one in the closet in case something happened to the other. Well when I was up there I asked if he still did that, and low and behold he did. BUT... She didn't want any of the stereo crap at all, just bad memories, and not something she was into and had been trying to get rid of it forever apparently.

Anyway I came home with this for absolutely nothing, and made my mum happy to get rid of crap that reminded her of him. She wouldn't let me leave without taking it. :D. And all I wanted was an old beat up receiver to mess with.

Full 5.1 Home Theater set up. Sony Receiver and 5 DVD changer along with a complete set of Onkyo 200 series speakers and sub.

I'll get some pics up with it set up in the apartment tomorrow or something. They needed a quick cleaning. I still need to pick up an extra optical audio cable but otherwise seem set for now. Kinda sad I ripped my dvd collection to the media center pc but took out 5.1. Ughh, dumbarse me. Never thought I'd get a decent 5.1, at least no time soon. Figured that way I could toss them to backup dvd5's but keep as good video quality as I could and strip useless stuff. Not so useless now, ouch.

Also grabbed The Unreal Anthology at Gamestop for $1.99.

It was labeled as NEW, but was in an open case in a sleeve that was already ripped open. Must have been the display one and they took the game out of the case to just display the case like they do now. Would have complained if it was expensive as I didn't want an open game, but for $1.99 I couldn't do that.

Yes, it really is. I really just wanted a beat up older receiver. That way I could work on rebuilding/boxing a couple cheap sets of speakers for it that are in storage. I never expected to get something like that.

But that was the way my dad was. Always had to have extremely nice electronics, but it was always my mum buying them as he was his druggie abusive non working self.

I never would have imagined having such a nice speaker set. I was never into surround stuff and whatnot that much. I just wanted enough volume to be louder than the super fan that we have running in the summer. I told her, at the very least I was amazingly grateful for them, which even if it wasn't genuine (which it was completely) would have been more than she had ever received in acknowledgment.

Ya, they are quite nice. We were watching The Incredible Hulk last night and it was awesome. Much more immersive experience than the tinny lcd speakers, lol.
