Apparently Shuttle is pushing for standardization of laptop MBBs. I love that somebody is finally actually doing this, but I never would have expected it from Shuttle. It seems like almost a complete 180 from their former practices. Still, I really hope they succeed with this, and if it works for MBBs, maybe GPU manufacturers will get on board too and actually standardize swappable GPUs? :D

Yeah MXM would be great if there were cheaper channels to get them through. As it is, there's really no point.

FINALLY! I've been wanting standardized laptop boards for years now. Now I'm thinking form factors in three different size form-factors would be great: netbook, standard, and desktop replacement. Kinda like desktop form factors of miniITX, microATX, and ATX.

Ah, I remember hearing about the MXM standard...d_stiglar's right though; nobody sells them, which kind of defeats the purpose...

I seriously hope this works, not least because it could mean that battery standardisation (which should be with us already) could be next.

that would make l;ife ALOT easier, buy a cheap laptop and upgrade it later when its not powerful enought without having to get a complete new system!

Except that's exactly why it probably won't happen. Why settle for a repeat customer buying a component or two when you can get them to buy a whole new system...
