Hi everyone,

My name is Jae, and I am a college student at Art Center College of Design in Southern California, in the city of Pasadena. I along with 2 other teammates were given a wonderful opportunity to research the culture behind case mods, video game mods, and modifications of both aesthetic, multi-purpose, new purpose, or performance in general. More specifically though, our research is to observe, identify, and to learn through participation with in-person interview of current or past modders.

Our group has little to no knowledge of the modding community, however we are extremely excited and fascinated by the mods found both here and across the world wide web, and we would like to learn more about the culture, motivations, and ideas behind it.

And so, we ask your help that if anyone here on the forums would not mind offering a bit of their time to do in-person reviews with us. We are looking for people near our area, Southern California. We are willing to drive a bit to meet you all, so distance is not a huge issue unless you are out of state. In fact, we can treat you out to lunch, dinner, or a drink as an incentive for offering your help. Or if you are not directly available, but know of people or companies in the Southern California area that you can refer us to, we would greatly appreciate that as well.

Thank you, we greatly appreciate you taking your time to read through this, if interested, we hope to hear from you soon!

Sincerely,
Jae

ditto. I believe we do have some members in that area though; good luck with your project. We have members ranging everywhere from functional minimalists like myself to true artists, and I suspect you will find as many reasons for modding as there are people, but I think everyone will agree with me when I say we all share a common joy in creating something unique and uniquely suited to our needs.

Computer modding involves alcohol and other intoxicating substances.

its how we get our ideas.

hahha ok not really.

I'd come and talk but a.) i don't build over the top computers b.) i'm not one for talking c.) Kaliforniastan is 1,253 miles away.

But best of luck regardless. I'm sure plenty of us would answer Q/A's from the forums though.
