My gaming rig: New Genesis is having issues with the internet. A lot of the time when I turn it on it connects to my network automatically, but not to the internet. New Genesis is plugged directly into my router 6 feet away via CAT6 cable (I just bought a brand new cable today to be sure).

My Commodore is 3 feet away from the router and also using CAT6, it has no problems at all. I also bought a new Intel NIC hoping this would resolve the problem. The card installed fine, but connecting the cable to the new card gives me no internet at all. Oddly enough I think my internet signal through the onboard may be better with the new card installed (that I'm not using).

I went to Speedtest.net on both machines and this is what I get for the Commodore:

And then with New Genesis it took several minutes of the upload waiting to connect before I got this!

My upload speed is in the toilet! Those two pics above had been taking a few minutes to upload to photobucket so I cancelled and did it on the Commodore.

I checked my Windows firewall against the Commodore and they're the same. I'm running Windows 7 Pro on both machines and I'm only using Malwarebytes and Windows Security Essentials.

I even tried using Chrome and it makes no difference

Reinstall network drivers?

I am with AmEv on this check out your drivers and do a wipe and reinstall and see if anything improves from there. It is weird that you connect at all.

I did think it may be a plugin issue that stopped speedtest from working but if you are unable to actually upload then it has to be something more. Just strange that is not completely not working.

You are doing right by antivirus and firewalls how long has this been happening? You have had New Genesis a while now.

But I used the new PCI gigabit card and it didn't help either. Does onboard need to be totally disabled for an add on card to work properly? I ran the motherboards LAN diagnostic and it found no problems. Then I reran the test on Genesis and at first it does even better on the download portion.

Here's my laptop's score over 30 feet away through 3 walls

I'm going to buy a wi-fi card and see if that does the trick

I uninstalled my driver and rebooted. Then I reinstalled and retested.

At least it finally passed, but rediculously slow

For giggles, I ran the test on a Vista 32-bit computer downstairs. I have 100 feet of CAT6 going throught the floor to the other side of the house into a 5 port Gigabit switch. Then it comes out of there via CAT6 another 20 feet to the computer.

Shouldn't have to disable mobo LAN to use pci LAN. Have you tried different ports on your router or even tried a different router? Maybe switch the comodorre and Genesis around and see if the issues swotch

I'm going to buy a good wifi adapter today. I figure at 5 feet my signal would be better than the laptop. I'll know tonight

The Wifi card fixed my problem. I bought the TP Link TL-WDN4800 450Mbps PCIe card
