well i finished my computer then plugged it in to see if everything was on and in working order . it seems as if my hard drive, dvd drive , and two of my fans are not getting any power to them

see this fan on the top of my case
http://img117.imageshack.us/img117/4480/compprob11vt.jpg

is connected to this fan in the front of my case here

http://img366.imageshack.us/img366/1536/compprob20en.jpg

they are linked togather by

http://img296.imageshack.us/img296/9945/compprob32ti.jpg

and the fan in the front is hooked up to the motherboard like so.

its the yellow wire

and here are my power lights not being on , and my dvd drive light not on.

good job... have you already tried to make anything work with half the cables plugged? Did you knew that you need 2 cables everytime you want to use something similar? Power needs to start from somewhere, and to end somewhere else, not just get into something and having a stop, or just having an end without current being flowing, IT WONT WORK.

Oh wait, I see you are using the yellow cable as a guess so you can read your fan RPM? Am I wrong? and how your thing is plugged?

Where is going the two (red/black) little wires? And where is going the other end of the molex connector?

And I hope you know that fans uses 12V (generally), and that yellow wires means 12V in computering.

The fan connected to your motherboard seems to have only one connector. It needs 2 to function. This may be the source of your problems.

I think that's just for monitoring. It's the yellow one, the power are usually red/black.
I think Nagoshi has it, that pic... Look at that molex going nowhere. It ought to have a plug in it from the PSU.
It's a male (contains pins rather than sockets), you can tell by the square flanges. There shouldn't be any male molexes hanging around, since they're on the load side of the connection. Look at the ones coming from the PSU, they're female. It's ok to have spare females around, but all the male connectors should be occupied.

ok ill mess around with the idea of you cant have any males laying around when i get home, ill let you guys know shortly

For fans its the red wire thats 12volts, black is 0volts and the yellow wire reports the RPM. Its silly because with normal molex connectors the yellow is 12volts and the red is 5volts. Xmastree is right though, male molexes laying around are bad, the one laying around in the photo is a feed through connector which should be connected somewhere.

If you still cant work out whats wrong grab a pen and paper and scetch out a wiring diagram, it will soon become obvious whats wrong (hopefully ;) )

The blacks are the returns so the loop is always complete. You dont need to loop it.

Are you sure they are rightly plugged on your mobo? I think they have a polarity, but im not sure - check it out.

yeah ill i should have to plug in is the ribbon cables right?

The ribbon cables should be keyed on one side which lines up with the slot on the motherboard, if there is no key (rarely) then there should be a red strip on one edge of the ribbon, or an indented arrow on the connector itself - this indicates pin one. Once youve found that on your motherboard look closely at the connector, there will be a pin one indication on your motherboard or on the connector itself which, again, is usually an indented arrow.

Have you got a multimeter?
