I am looking for a new router and or modem for my internet connection, because my connection keeps dropping off and disconnecting! This is a real problem because I am going to Spain this week and no one knows how to fix the connection if it happens! The worst problem with this is that our phone system (Sunrocket) is a VOIP. So I would like a router/cable modem all in one that doesnt drop the connection, one like the Linksys Wireless-G 802.11g Cable Gateway, but I have read that the connection drops too much, so I'm looking for something like that so I can buy it somewhere like Bestbuy or CompUSA.
Thanks for the help...8)
I'm confused. Do you want a voip router or regular router?
Wired? Wireless?
Do you have a cable modem that this hooks in to or just a coax cable coming out of the wall?
Details help us understand your situation and your needs.

Regular router, with cable modem included, like the Linksys Wireless-G 802.11g Cable Gateway. I need a wireless signal because of the computer downstairs. I have a coax cable going to my cable modem, but the Linksys Wireless-G 802.11g Cable Gateway is an all in one sorta thing. I have the VOIP box already hooked up to my router, but thats not the problem. Sometimes the connection drops from either the router or modem, and want something reliable so it wont go out when I am in Spain, because I am the only person in my family that knows how to reset the connection, so if the connection goes out, we have no phones or anything. I need a good wireless router/cable modem that doesnt drop the connection.
Help me, I need something by tomorrow!
EDIT: Also, I'm not sure if the problem lies in the router or modem, so I would rather just kill 2 birds with one stone and get an all in one thingy.
Failure to plan is planning to fail. Time is required to make a decision. If you have that little time, don't consult a forum.
If you have a cable modem box that converts the signal from coax to ethernet(cat5), then all you need is some dinky 50 dollar b/g router from staples/best buy/ etc etc.
If you're plugging the coax directly into the thing you plug your computers into, then I don't know. I don't go for all in one units.

If the connection drops then i think its your isp and you should consult/complain about the issue. They will most likely send a technician who will assess the problem. If it is the modem or router, you should ask for a product that they guarantee to work perfectly on thier system.

Unfortunately, ISPs like BTbroadband prefer to just say 'buy one of our (overpriced, bad quality) routers, regardless of the problem.
Stay away from Netgear routers. Netgear are a disgusting company who lie to their customers, cover-up faulty hardware and knowingly ship thousands of faulty products. They make me sick.
If you're on bt broadband, and you're going for that linksys router, you will need to flash it's bios with the latest version otherwise it WILL NOT WORK. despite this, linksys continue to market the product as 'will work out of the box with all UK ISPs'
Customer support for linksys products has gotten wayyyy better after cisco bought them out. Call them about it and bitch and they should change something or hook you up.

Call everyone associated with this and complain. The last thing a company wants is a unhappy customer. Complain and complain untill they hook you up. And they WILL do it.
I've even got home delivery from McDonalds with sevral complaints to the manager.

I use a NetGear router myself, and I've never had too much of a problem, but I've had problems with Linksys problems myself.....

Which router do you have? I was referring to the WG311. Basicly, netgear made a new model of router, and then found that it was faulty. Instead of disposing of the faulty routers, they put them in the same shell as the WG311, and boxed them as WG311s. The only way of telling whether the model is faulty was to open it up and check a difference in serial number. Netgear deny this, and any threads made about the problems on their support forums are promptly deleted. As one netgear support admin put it 'you are all ****ing pathetic, cant you see that this problem has come up before and not been solved? Stop asking us to fix this because it's not happening."
And this is why I will never buy a netgear product again.
