Well, lately, I've been trying out a lot of digital art programs, and I've found out one thing. You can't draw with a mouse. Even the person I tried making look bad, looked bad.

So my question is, can anyone recommend a good tablet? I'm looking for one around $100 with a large enough active space do get some reasonable drawing in.

Also, I saw these (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16823100004) pens when looking for tablets. Are they like pens for the tablets, or do they like, use the table as the drawing surface and try to figure out you line distance and pressure and stuff like that?

I knew a girl who had mad, MAD drawing skills with an ordinary mouse. Basically, I agree with you. You have to be naturally gifted or something to be able to draw with a mouse.

Other than bumping up your thread, I can't help you. lol

I wouldn't minding having a good tablet as well for around that price, I'll have to keep my eye on this thread. ^^

That pen is for use with a tablet. For a brand of tablet, I'd recommend Wacom. I believe they have something on their site in which you can put it certain specifications for what you need, and then find one in your price range. I myself have an Intuos 3, but I don't remember how much it was.

I used to use a Wacom tablet with that same pen. As far as I know, they don't make a pen like that to be used without a tablet. But depending on the software you are using, photoshop for example, is pressure sensitive and works quite well. You should be able to pick up a pen and tablet on ebay for much less than $100.

I've got a friend in the graphics arts / video editing industry, and he swears his love for his Wacom tablet.

His isn't big, mind you... I *think* it's 4"x6" or something.

I've seen him work PhotoShop with that thing, and... well.... amazing.

I asked him why he didn't get a bigger one... like 12"x12" or something... and he said that it was, literally, too big.
Smaller = faster.

Just my 2cents.
A Wacom tablet is in my wish list... in the future... :)

I've used small and big tablet, all from WACOM. What I can say about them:
The small ones are perfect for toutch ups in photoshop, after effects... And the big ones are great for drawing. But you wont find a large tablet around 100$
Small ones can be used in drawing too, you just have to learn when to move the cursor.

Unfortunatly, I got rid of both I owned. I always need money for chrismas gift, so I gave hardware most of the time...

Wacom is _the_ way to go. You might be able to find an old one on ebay. I have 2 of the older models, sitting under my test bench, but no pen, otherwise you could have one.

Just checked ebay...

Would you really let go of one? I would use eBay, but my mom can't find our PayPal stuff. What would you let one go for? If you can post some info. on one or both of them, I can probably just buy a pen for one.

Mine isn't a huge one. It's like 4x6 or 4x8. Works fine though. And no matter what the size of it, it still takes up the whole space of the screen.

I don't have any experience in the tablet world, but from my friends that are.. WACOM all the way. This thread did remind me of THIS (http://www.bongofish.co.uk/Wacom/wacom_pt1.html) little project that was posted on Hack-A-Day a little while ago. I figured some of you might enjoy the read.

I have a cheapass one that was £10 with Serif Photoplus. Its horrendous. Most of the time, it either doesn't cover the whole screen, or it jumps about all over the place.

Word of advice: Spend the money on a decent one.

I really want a gfx tablet, but last time I had one, I barely used it :P And I found it really annoying having loads of cables all over the desk.
