******WARNING***** RANT AHEAD*****WARNING*******
it's all about: punk, ska, regge, hardcore(no not happy hardcore you UK weirdos), Oi! and much more, but come on, there is way too much distortion on most metal and too many drums and too many guitar solos and not enough bass solos(all I'm talking about is mainstream stuff I hear on the radio, don't give me some ........"well such and such is really stripped down and does alot of accoustic and their drummer only uses a five piece setup" AHHHH it makes me want to stab my ears[don't get me wrong, Im not being mean and infact i hang out with a bunch of metalica, BLS, dragonforce loving people each day due to the lack of punk fans at my school]) BUT WHY I ASK, WHY?!?!?!?
Because most of us feel the same way about metal that you do about punk.
Musical differences are a matter of taste, not if one is better or worse. The reason people make punk music is the same reason people make jazz or bluegrass or rock. The love of the music is the same and extended to all genres.
I listen to classical sometimes. Does that make me dislike Primus? No. It means I listen to classical sometimes. If you don't, it doesn't matter.
I also listen to country, bluegrass, rock and metal. Occasionally I go way out and listen to classical Indian music. I listen to these things because I enjoy them for what they are. If that makes me different or not part of your group, then so be it. I'm happy where I'm at.
If you don't want to listen to something, then don't. There's no reason to put down other people's tastes because you don't like them. It's their decision, not yours and you can walk away. No need for more complexity than that.

I totally agree. Each type of music sounds different to people. In saying that i believe that peoples musical tastes are a progression. I started of listening to slipknot and bands like that, then slowly i introduced myself into other bands like caliban, cradle of filth, 36 crazyfists, hatebreed, walls of jericho, Crossfade, Children of bodom. but at the same time i enjoy stuff like Michael Buble, Andrea Bocelli etc.
that is my 2cents.

dude honestly dont go on a "what metal are you listening to" and smash metal seriouslly its not cool. I'm not really into punk but i still go to concerts with my friends and appreciate the genre they're into so dont smash our choice because we're not attacking yours.
anyway, back to the topic, right now Children of Bodom, and in genral, system of a down, korn, slayer, slipknot, mudvayne, disturbed, black label soceity, and a whole lot of other stuff i love my metal:D

I'm also into punk, ska, hardcore. But being open to other musics made me discover alot of good feelings, good vibes, and also meet nice persons that I would not have been interest into if I was not open mind. That said, my new girlfriend is an oldschool metalhead and I must say that there's some good stuff in her discs. I must add that she's as much open mind that I am.
