I was just wondering which one would give me more speed. SCSI seems to have a higher RPM rate, but RAID seems to have a higher transfer rate... any know more specifics?

It really depends on the controller you use if the scsi drives will be faster than sata raid. Side by side scsi transfer rates are faster than sata, but in a raid configuration it may be equal. The scsi drives do cost more as well as the controller (a good one can run $400+!, a REAL good one can set you back over $1000). I have a scsi controller that is meant for a server's 64 bit pci slot, but will run in 32 bit mode if plugged into a 32 bit desktop board slot.

For the money, sata will give better performance than scsi.

Hmm maby I will go for SCSI then... (I already have 2x75 gig drives and a pci card & cable... just gotta figure out a nice way to make it look cool for my case..

thanks for the info!

edit: btw, whats the data transfer rate of IDE?

If you have the drives and controller raid the scsi drives and the performance will be great.

IDE or PATA can go up to 133 MB/sec (depending on the controller and drive).
SATA 1 runs at 150 MB/sec.
SATA 2 runs at 300 MB/sec.
SCSI 320 runs at 320 MB/sec (again depending on the controller and drive).

What controller and drives do you have?

EDIT: BTW I have heard that Seagate is working on releasing a 500 MB/sec scsi drive in the next year or so. They will be expensive though and there is currently no controller to handle that fast of transfer rate. Yet!

I can't find my Hdd's .... gotta remember where I put them, but my controller is a AHA-2940UW/ compaq... which turns out to only beable to handle 40MB/sec... oh well I got that 4 free, the onlything I remember of the Hdd that they were 10k spindle speed and were advertised as 50 pin (but they weren't..)
